HAZEL O'CONNOR, a former YARDLEY make up model, stars in, as well as, writes and performs the "band's songs" in this New Wave/Punk feature produced by the late DODI FAYED (yes, Princess Di's DODI FAYED!) The supporting cast is a list of fine actors in early roles, PHIL DANIELS [Quadrophenia,] Jonathan Pryce [Something Wicked This Way Comes/EVITA/Brazil,] James Broadbent [Topsy Turvy/Moulin Rouge.] In the story we see the raw energy of KATE (O'Connor) demonstrated to DANNY (Daniels)as she is canvassing the alley in a seedy bar district for an upcoming performance. He, and WE, are impressed! He convinces her to let him manage her and assemble a supporting band. [Mark Wingett/Gary Tibbs/Johnathan Pryce/and a spazzed-out Peter Hugo-Daly] A Disastrous studio session still produces a workable DEMO and the band gets its first gigs. DANNY via infatuation is her biggest afan and falls in love ith her; without a return of similar affection. His frustration is compounded by the success of the band, and new pressures put on by the RECORD LABEL...to perform and promote. KATE begins to weaken and just as she needs his support DANNY QUITS! KATE is left to the wolves of the record company and is thrust into ARENA PERFORMANCES. In a Finale that evokes the FEMBOT of Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS, KATE appears in a plastic body suit with printed circuitry and a stage with laser effects! Yet, her passion, seen in flashbacks, is now nowhere to be found. Her implied collapse at the end of the song and movie (a stunned FREEZE-FRAME,) seems fatal. If not physically fatal, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually fatal. For being a "PUNK ROCK" movie, like SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER was a "DISCO" movie, THIS FILM PACKS A WHOLLOP! Never mind the spoiler...You WILL watch this movie, like a train-wreck you can't look away from, over and over.Read full review
