The music itself probably deserves a "Good" rating, but found the varying levels of recorded volumn VERY irratating. Music starts out very soft; almost inaudible. Audible level rises and falls through out the CD. I found myself contantly having to monitor and adjust the volumn control after every track or two. What a pain. So the lesser rating isn't due to the music, it's due to the engineering. On a side note, I was disappointed that the "Funeral" track did not also include the bagpipe solo ("sending off in their own way") played that evening, in the presence of the Uncle Argyle and young William Wallace. But that is probably a minor omission.
I had this CD a few years back and somehow misplaced or lost it. I went to several local big stores to find it. So basically, if it's not on the top 10 or within the last few years, they don't have it. So I went to FYE with my wife to see if I could find this CD. And there it was for $20.13 with tax. I really missed listening to it and wanted it, but my wife said it's too much right now... we'll wait. So, I thought I'd check out ebay and still found it a few bucks cheaper, but not much. Then I remembered half.com and found it brand new and sealed for $9.78 plus $3.49 S/H media mail($13.27 total). I had to wait 5-days to get it, but well worth the savings and it's a brand new original. I'm very satisfied!
Hauntingly beautiful... a must have for music lovers. The mystic bagpipes, a shiver of strings behind them...you can almost feel the cool fog rolling in from the sea, and across a Scottish field. John Horner's soundtrack to "Braveheart," maintains the feel of place throughout, but never relies too heavily on obvious instrumental clichés (the pipes, for instance, are used sparingly). No doubt, tracks like "The Battle of Stirling" will resonate a bit more if you've seen "Braveheart." That said, Horner's score has a rare quality: It is cinematic, but also enjoyable on its own as orchestral music.
This soundtrack is beautiful - the music is haunting in places, soothing and beautifully orchestrated. If you've seen the movie, some scenes come to mind so it's thought-provoking as well. It's a quality soundtrack.

The soundtrack of BRAVEHEART,composed by James Horner and performed by the London Symphony,is inspiring as it conveys the feelings of patriotism, honor, victory, defeat, and sorrow. The motion picture was outstanding. The soundtrack made it phenomenal. The use of the bagpipe and other celtic instruments make you proud to be a Scot or wish you were one. I rate this as among the best of motion picture soundtracks.
