This an amazing and unique device. To start the webOS aproach to mobile interface is great. Out of the box is fast, responsive and easy to use. Email, social network, exchange server and contacts are sync in such an easy way that you just cant stop playin with the phone. I know that hp now is open sourcing webOS, but i highly recomend to get familiar with preware and webOS nation, to make the most out the unit. Batery wise, is ok like any other phone, but the Touchstone charging and higher capacity baterry very well keep you all day. It can get a little slow from time to time but for an ATT phone and an iPhone 4s owner, i have to admit is faster and no DROPED CALLS or LOW signal. On the other part, yes there are very little apps for it. So if you really need to use your phone as a toy (and you need more than Angry Birds, Need for Speed, Tetris) this might be a draw back. Music wise the experience (buying, listening and adding) is same as iOS but I have notice Amazon MP3 store is significantly cheaper. For work the device comes with QuickOffice and you can sync the most popular cloud services that will keep you productive. Theres another app SmartOffice wich will expand you editing capabilitites. I think this is a great phone to own and operate that could rival any other smartphone in the market. Also this phone is was design to keep you connected and productive in a way that other competitors will require apps in other to expand capabilities. Great Buy!!! “For all sad words of tongue and pen, The saddest are these, 'It might have been'.” (John Greenleaf Whittier 1807-1892) I don’t think that Mr. Whittier was referring to the HP Pre3 when he penned these words but they sure ring true. If Palm had better backing. If Palm had the Pre 3 as their first webOS phone. If leo Apotheker hadn’t announced that HP would no longer make Tablets or Phones. If… Things may have worked out differently. I have owned a number of Palm devices over the years and most recently a Pre + a Pre 2 and now Pre 3 and I am thrilled with the 3. The size the feel in your hand and performance are all great. I did have an issue when first setting it up and had to update software but since then all is well. Are there as many apps? No, but what is there is good and people are still writing. All in all I am happy.Read full review
My favorite features are 1) You create your own shortcuts. For example if you type "r" the text automatically changes it to "are", if you type "u", it automatically changes it to "you". You can create your custom short cuts like when you type "x" it automatically changes it to whatever you specify. I have mine set up to "I am either driving or busy at the moment". 2) Exhibition mode: When phone is idle on charging dock, it automatically switches to screen saver mode and exhibits whatever you wish to see like a slide show. I use mine for photos, facebook news feeds, Accuweather, News, or simply time clock. You must explore this feature 3) Only phone that allows Streaming. I watch all my cricket games on it. FREE 4) Keyboard shortcuts. Press and hold H and it starts dialing home. M for Mom, D for Dad, Whatever you configure it to. S for Sharon, R for Rob. 5) Cloud Backup: If I lose this phone, I simply get another SIM card, insert it into another WebOS device, log in using my email and password and everything including apps and contacts are restored on my new device(except for the locally stored items like photos). 6) USB drive: The phone works as USB flash drive whenever needed 7) Turn your phone into a WiFi hotspotRead full review
Best OS I have seen so far, Usability of the OS is the key strength to the phone, Have been using it for nearly a year. Very nice UI and way things are organized, get only few actions to get to a application or screen. When we close an app it is for sure that the app is closed. Not like in Windows we need to press multiple time back button to close an app. Messaging is so good, you can have word shortcuts and by single type of a letter you can make a whole word appear. So my messages dont look like SMS language and make me look as if I send full formal message. Very sad to see bad decision made by HP. Brains out decision. Best example how a brilliant product can fail due to lack of marketing while much worse products continue to thrive due to marketing and money push. Get this phone when you can. One of the best thought OS. Improvement areas: Hardware needs improvement interms of more RAM. OS become slow at times, restart fixes this issue. Can have blue tooth file transfer feature. Though Open webos is initiated, need more momentum to it.Read full review
Where to start? Simply wonderful phone. Easy to use, elegant design, decent app offerings for an unreleased phone in the states, and responsive to touch plus a keyboard makes this phone a must have. If you want apps and can afford it, get an iPad since it has the screen size for most of them to look wonderful, but if you want a phone, then this is one of the best. It's cost to value ratio is unparalleled in my opinion and it multitasks like a computer would. My iPad Retina doesn't even do this! The only qualm is the battery life, i.e. charge everyday at the end of the day. I don't believe one can regret this buy.
