When my current pot went offline even when plugged in I decided to get a press and reduce my coffee intake. I found the unit on e-bay, it came three days later. I interviewed a trained barista about proper methods for the french press, and I am completely satisfied with the results I have been able to produce with this very well made, easy to use and portable item.

The glass arrived broken all along the metal rings at the top (in a very clean line, which somehow makes it even worse as it must be a fault in the manufacturing or quality of the glass). I actually thought this ring of glass was SUPPOSED to go up and down with the plunger... except that the coffee of course spilled all over the counter. I never used a French Press before so it didn't even occur to me to check reviews. 'Such a simple appliance, what could possibly go wrong?' thought I. Well, now I know. When I read the reviews, trying to find out what am I doing wrong that half the coffee is spilled when I pour, I realized mine was broken and I found out that many have complained about the glass breaking but since this one is so cheap they just bought another one. So based on reviews again I decided to spend an extra $22 (cheaper than buying a stream of the cheaper ones) and bought a Bodum which I love, love, love. Oh yeah, the FP's filter also let coffee grounds into the mug. No such problem with the Bodum.Read full review

This is a good little french press. I like it's size, it's perfect for 1 or 2 people. It has 1 negative, the fine mess screen wrinkles at the edge allowing grounds to flow freely into the "strained" portion of the carafe. I washed and took the straining system apart and put the fine mesh screen back into it upside down. This seems to have helped a lot, but still there are some grounds floating in my cup of coffee. I had a different press before this, but accidentally broke the glass and know that this is not normal.

As an occasional coffee drinker and a single-cupper, I really like this press BUT it works much better with coarsely ground beans and not the fine ground as even if you settle the plunger down really slowly, some of the fine ground still ends up in your pour. Better to use whole beans you grind yourself. For the price it's a great little press which does what it's supposed to do and is simple to use and easy to clean.

I got this one because it looked solid and was inexpensive. It is solid. My only complaint is that the screen wrinkles in just such a way that it allows a tiny bit of coffee grounds to slip through a spot or two. I guess that kind of perfection is what you pay $35 for when you buy presses like my last one. But it's really no big deal - just some grit at the bottom of the cup.
