I think for many players, like myself, who are in bands or who play solo, having a looper on hand can be a lifesaver. I am the only guitarist in my band. From time to time I need to replicate a recording where more than one guitar track is playing or where a switch from one sound to another is so dramatic as to be problematic for one guy. The RC-2 is my hired gun. I simply program into memory the part I need played and hit the pedal when I need the loop to start and stop. If you are new to working with Loopers, these are a great way to get baptized. Boss packs alot into these boxes but not so much that a reasonably intelligent person cannot make good use of it all. Mine was new for $90 US. I think this is a good value for the technology offered. The only thing stopping me from giving this a five star rating is that there is no way to factory reset this device if something like a digital massacre happens. Boss offers no way to easily repair it and I have seen a number of these show up for sale in non-working condition. This isn't worn out footswtiches, bad tubes or loose inputs we're talking about here, this is digital electronics and diagnosing is not usually a simple matter. Repair will run 90-125 US if you are out of warranty. This leads me to my closing point. Even though Boss is smart about putting this circuitry inside a metal box to protect everything, some players are still in the wah-wah phase of life where the feel you can treat your footswitches the same way you would treat a cock roach. I think if you treat this with some respect and care it should go the usual distance most BOSS products go.... a good long while.Read full review
You know you can get what you need from this pedal. I have a friend who uses another model/brand of looper and he's a one man band. He books gigs with acoustic guitar, congas, bass, and other instruments and he's great! I use thise to help me with my timing. I'm a live sound engineer and have been for 16 years, I mix live bands so I have very little time to jam with others. I'd reccomend this unit for sure. The sound quality is good. I play strats and teles through a Fender Vibroluxe Reverb amp. I also have a small 10 watt Blackheart that's much more suitable for the house. Effects are Carbon Copy Delay, OCD boost/comp, boss super phaser, Old Rat - one of the 1st made. This looper pedal is a great place to start with looping at an affordable price.
i love this boss rc-2 loop station. I bought it to fill out the rythem sound in my band. I found it easy to use & does what it says it will. I dislike the small knob for selection but mostly I set it & leave it . the price was great. Dont have another loop box to compare it too, but i use all Boss petals & it fits in my plastic molded case. I would rate this item a 9 on a scale of 1-10
Pros: 16 minutes of loop time 11 spots to store them fits in with other boss pedals and holding case clean sounding tutorials on you tube to get you started reasonably priced used instead of RC3 Cons: learning curve involved but not overly complicated I had a digitech pedal that included 20 sec of looping...didnt save it and it always sounded processed..i like this much better.

This machine works great and for first time loopers to lean about looping. If you are going to use it in a band or for recording I would say buy a RC-300. For the person at home just playing alone this think is GREAT Fun and easy to use.... Also a good idea to buy the pedals makes the machine even easier to operate.
