I have a living room that is set up so a 5.1 wont work, TV in the corner fire place on one wall couch and chairs against different walls area. This unit has a nice sound quality that fills the room.

Unless you have heard many other speakers, your reference point would only be these speakers. Polk, Klipsch, Boston Acoustics, Paradigm, PSB and many others would out do these units for the same or lower price. A Subwoofer is a unit that can reproduce 30hz and below. This unit hovers around 45hz at its lowest end. This is a bass unit. Also of note, it's range is up to 200hz, very directional and audible, meaning I can tell where the subwoofer is located. For full price, I could get an awesome Paradigm or PSB or even Magnepan.....and these are award winning companies that put out great products. Notice that Bose products do not have THX certifications, one of the most stringent in the industry, nor is it mentioned in any Audiophile magazines (plural). That sums it up, so if you bought and happy with it, great for you, you could have done better. For $20 off of eBay, it's a wonderful deal for casual listening.Read full review

Small size speakers which give a bigger and still clear sound than one might expect. New, these speakers are overpriced especially where I am, so Ebay was the only option for me. Setup, including wiring, positioning, amplifier settings and equalization is very important to get the sound you're looking for. Hard pushed to find a better speaker for the same size. There is a lot of bad comments about these speakers, but do yourself a favour and listen yourself first , but if you don't like them later, resale price is good and they are in demand. And where would you sell them quickly. Take a guess. starts with letter E. Good luck.
I have never owned Bose, so I was wary, having heard so many mixed reviews about their products. But I needed speakers for a small space in our living room area to pair with my Onkyo receiver and Samsung 40 inch TV (even my Paradigm Bookshelf speakers were too big) and these seemed to fit the bill. While they certainly don't have the range/richness of the Paradigms, they are "good enough" and sit discreetly, with the module tucked away elsewhere. I also have a Yamaha subwoofer to emphasize the bass. Not sure how I would feel, however, if I paid full price.
I bought this system (Bose Acoustimass 5 III) after years of thinking it would be the best satellite system out there. Once I hooked it up, however, I was disappointed. The system lacked clarity; the bass was muddy and the upper end lacked definition. I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it than I did. I think I'll just use it in my workshop. If you really want an impressive satellite system take a look at Orb Audio, especially if you are looking for a home theater system. The sound is absolutely amazing!
