The sandpaper clamping mechanism is the best ever on any 1/4 sheet sander ever! The worst would probably be the Makita-the clearance to insert the edge of the paper is too small. #1 weakness of this Bosch is the on/off switch, which seems to fail after about 2 years of medium usage. Fortunately, you can still get the switch from the online parts companies. Bosch was crazy to stop making this sander, they should have worked on improving it, I understand the clamping mechanism sometimes failed; that never happened to me. I own 4 of these 1297d sanders and will look for a couple more to hopefully last me for life! In case you wonder how I use these sanders, I use them in the yo-yo sanding process, each sander using respectively: 120, 150, 180 and 220 grit. In a work session lasting around 6+ hours, each sander is switched on maybe 100 times for about 5 seconds at a time. That is how I learned the switch is the weakness.Read full review
