Based on a true story this movie exposes men and women at their best and worst. I wish schools would make this viewing of this film mandatory for all teenagers. Perhaps it might eliminate some of the hatred they have for those who are different than themselves.

Good cinematography, well acted - overall a good film (but not great). Problems: more of a WWII film about resistence to Hilter in the country, than it was a film about Bonhoffer and his struggle with his conscience and the resistance movement. It starts with several brief scenes of Bonhoffer in New York in 1939. No introduction of how he got there, and why we should care. Nothing about his prior work or thinking that went before his difficult decision to return to Germany (or why he did). If I were not somewhat familiar with his story, I would have been lost and confused. Showed him to be genuine, committed and Christ centered. But, with a low affect (and maybe that is how he was?).
I had seen this movie a few years ago, but wanted this just to remind myself of how wonderful our country is to worship in the freedom our soldiers have fought and died for!

This is an excellent DVD with a beautiful story of one man's faith in light of Hitler's evil. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who values their faith in God

A fine job of bringing the story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer to the screen. History is respected in this thoughtful telling of the German Lutheran pastor who opposed the nazis from the pulpit and acted as a secret agent for the allies. Fine acting, engaging dialogue, and good production values make this one an entertaining and challenging watch. Great for school use with any WWII curriculum.
