I have bought three sets of Bob Books over the years, for my daughter and, later, for her children. Bob Books teach by presenting letters of the alphabet one at a time with little stories containing words of only the letters learned so far, accompanied by simple illustrations, such as "Fat cat sat." Your child will be thrilled, and you will, too, when he or she begins to decipher the mysteries of the written word, with ease! My daughter was highly motivated to learn how to read by the time she was four years old. Bob Books gave her a great head start in school. She was the only one in class who knew how to read!

Bought for grandchildren that are not quite 4 years old and attend a great daycare/preschool where they are introduced to the alphabet and letter sounds. These books are an easy & fun way to follow up with repetition of what they have been introduced to.

For the most-beginner reader, this is a great set of books. A child who has learned the basic sounds of the alphabet, he/she can jump right in and have success with reading. My 5-year-old grandson was so proud of himself when he was able to pick up the first book and read it without a lot of coaching. A child who is more advanced probably needs a different set. The pictures are super simple, but entertaining for a child, and the characters are easily recognizable. Forget about the reviewers that slam them for being "KKK." Totally ridiculous. They are based on shapes -- Mat is round, Sam is a triangle. Come on people --do we have to look for something that isn't there?!

Bob's books are great. My grandson is 5 years old and is on his third set, and loves to read these books. Very good for beginners.

These books are the best phonics beginner reader books that I have ever found! I have used them ever since I adopted my older daughter from China. They have gone through 2 daughters and 2 grand children. I gave a set to our parochial school's small library, too. I believe in them and while they are only pen and ink drawings, there is often small features on each page that you can catch your child's attention with: ants stealiing apples at the letter A's picnic.
