I like Judy Blume's writing style. I have a 9yr old daughter who liked "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and read all of the Fudge books. Normally, she goes for comic books/mangas or DVDs, so I was glad she went for a "regular" book. This book is on the American Library Association's banned books list, so you might not find a copy at your library or bookstore. It was challenged for using the word "d*mn" twice and a reference to the teacher as being a "b*tch". I thought it was a good book to discuss name calling & cursing (along with bullying). Pretty short, but better than Comic books, managa, or DVDs!
It is a great story. The excitement and anticipation is just as good as the first time I read it years ago

My third grade teacher read this book to our entire class and I was immediately and forever (no pun intended) hooked on Judy Blume. Third grade was MANY decades ago for me, but the memory of this particular story remains as relevant, appropriate and perfect as it ever was. You simply cannot go wrong with Blubber or any of Judy Blume's other childhood to coming-of-age books. Pure pleasure!
awesome book and great author book for young teen and all

My daughter and I starting reading this book last night,,,she is 9 and is starting to understand peer pressure and name calling. I read this book as a child and wanted her to enjoy the love of reading by exposing her to relevant topics by an adored author. Enjoy!
