Ola Gjeilo(yaylo) is the most brilliant composer on the planet today. Ola is from Norway and studied there but then studied at the Royal College in London and Julliard where he received his Masters Degree in Composition. Ola now lives and composes in NYC. Ola is 40 years old, has been composing for about 20 years and burst on the scene about 10 years ago with his choral music that includes piano and string orchestra at times. Choirs all over the world perform his music. It is the music of heaven. Piano Improvisations is his second of two all piano albums his first being Stone Rose. What is amazing about Piano Improvisations is just as the title says: the music was improvised on the spot and recorded in one take all 18 tracks. This shows his brilliance as a pianist as well as musician/composer. The music is very melodic with slight jazz overtones at times. There is something here for every mood feeling and emotion: bright reflective charming easy. It is hard to pick a favorite track because every track has something to like admire catch on to. However a few tracks stand out for me: Meribel-a love song for the piano; Cloudless-bright Chopinesque on the high end of the piano; Great Plains-very sonorous on the low end of the piano; Chorale which probably is my favorite and is aptly named because it sounds like a church hymn. If you like beautiful piano music as background music or serious listening with a cup of coffee while you drink in the sounds of Ola in your ears this is for you. Then look into Ola's three albums of brilliant heavenly Classical Choral music. Ola is all over You Tube also for your listening pleasure. Get on the Ola bandwagon now because in time you will wonder why you didn't sooner. Ola will be one of the greatest names in music history right up there with the familiar names we now know.Read full review
