I haven't USED this book in Science Class, yet - but it did bring my grade-school science back to mind. Also, I learned a few new things! I own this book and have pre-viewed it for science/health study. It seems to be a good find! I plan to use this with all of my children in a homeschool setting. I think the book is written for 5th grade, but there is learning potential for even very young ones. I have not used it yet, but I look forward to it. I think third graders could use it on their own. Younger children can be guided through it. I do wish there was more "color", but pages can be photocopied for coloring! The expirements seem to be simple to follow and allows for further exploration. It encourages repitition of the experiments in various situations. It does deviate from "experimentation" into "preaching" evolution as a fact at some points in the book. The authors comment was that it was "ok" that some people don't believe in evolution, as if evolutionists were on a higher rung on the ladder. But, if one sticks to the experiments presented - it will be really interesting, ESPECIALLY for those who believe that our bodies were created in such a magnificent way that we still do not FULLY understand them. It's nice to have a guide for our wonderful human bodies. This is the first one I've run onto that was presented as a learning guide rather than just a book of facts. I like it. This was recommended to us by our Homeschool Curriculum, KONOS. What a great book about the human body. Not your typical one. It's written in a wonderful way to appeal to kids learning about their incredible body, with great hands on experiments in each body section. It is character drawing format, which also keeps it fun.
I bought this book because it was a resource for a human body lapbook I am doing with my kids. (We are homeschoolers.) I liked that this book covered so many topics in a simple way and has experiments. I do not like the evolutionist angle from which it is written and I didn't care for the style the author used trying to relate to the kids. I would not buy this book again for these reasons.
We have used this book before and needed a replacement. It is an excellent science book and yet makes learning more fun. Its as good now as it was ten or more years ago.
This book is excellent for any child that enjoys doing experiments. This book can keep them busy on a rainy summer day! They don't only enjoy what they are doing, they get to learn in the process!
