I have MS and it was helpful to hear how someone else with this illness has handled the trials of dealing with MS. The book is factual and accurate about someone's experience dealing with illness without any sugar coating or Pollyannish approaches. Richard is inspiring as an example to anyone coping with an unexpected illness in their lives. He tells us how he and his family deal with the challenges; his experience helps us face our own personal challenges.
I discovered this book approximately 6 years ago, after being diagnosed with MS. I found several books in my library, and all had some helpful things, but this one was different. It simply resonated with me on such a deeply personal level. I even mentioned it to my doctor and he started telling his other MS patients about it. The book describes very accurately not just the physical side of living with an illness but also the emotional and everyday practical sides, as well. Not that other books didn't do that, but this particular book was truly inspirational to me, to the point that I actually purchased the book - which I know does not sound like a huge deal, but at the time finances were more than tight. I realize that not everyone responds to the same things, but this is definitely a book worth reading even if you don't have MS or cancer (which he also talks about).Read full review
I bought this book for a class I was taking. The book comes across as the story of Meredith Veiria's husband's battle with Multiple Sclerosis. However, I found that the book focuses more on his complaints with the various news channels that he worked for because they weren't very accepting of his disease. I was hoping it would be more disease related than a gripe session.
Richard Cohen was open about his journey with Multiple Sclerosis. He was honest, sometimes heartbreaking, other times, humorous. This book showed the reality of a person living with a chronic illness. I enjoyed reading it.
This books came in perfect condition. I haven't read it all yet but it seems so far like a really great article. I bought this because I have ms also and I wanted to read about the man's life and struggles withit.
