The Opening Scene breaks out with an intense Sexual Encounter between Timberlake and his Girl. As the movie progresses with Justin heading off to serve his Country, you quickly learn that his girl is a complete nympho to the Nth Degree. Within minutes it seems of his departure, she begins having Sexual Withdrawal Pains accompanied by mental anguish of wanting to keep her promise to be faithful. Predictably she plummets bouncing from one to the other until events lead her to being discovered by Samuel L. Jackson one Rainy night, unconscious and exposed at the side of the road. The next scene has our lovely Damsel in Distress waking and eventually discovering she has been chained as to prevent her escape. The Story progresses steadily with Samuel trying to force some Goodness into her all the while resisting the steady advances from the Nymph. The funniest part of the movie was while this girl was locked up and chained inside the cabin, a neighboring Young Boy approximately 13/14 comes kncoking on the door while Jackson is off in town. I will just say he gets a Greeting he will never forget!! So as a Genuine respect grows between the Girl and Jackson, the soldier returns for his girl only to find her missing with rumors of her infidelity to boot. He tracks her down to the cabin where a heated fight ensues between the Jealous knife-toting Timberlake and the cautious shotgunning Jackson. Timberlake shines in the closing scenes as he portrays some Believably Genuine Feelings!! All in all, it is a Good Movie (opening Scene). If you a Timberlake fan this movie is better to watch first before Alpha Dog (which is an Excellent) because he has a rather minor role...except for that Mildly Hot opening scene..LOL! Samuel Jackson fans will enjoy this one as he plays a different type of charecter than normal but yet maintains his typical stygma! Though there are some comical situations especially the one I mentioned, this tends to be more of a drama based on the struggles and desperation of an addict Nympho who crosses path with someone willing to go the extra distance to help someone in need against her will. My grade for this one would be a B-! Thanks for reading and Happy EBaying!Read full review
this was a good movie i did not know what to expect from this movie and was pleased by the end it captures the pain of many of it's characters in such a way that compels you to root for the ones in pain and scream at the gerkes of the movie i have always been a huge fan of both Ms. ricci and Mr. jackson both were electrifying in there roles and i give them great credit for taking on such complex characters it really proves there talent, dedication and love for the movies they choose to be corny for a second they knocked this out of the park you believed they were these characters for anybody who loves drama, family crises and hope that people can change with the love of a complete stranger this movie is for you it shows you two broken people who in the face of heartache and getting lost in life can come together and gain what they believed was the impossible...by the end of the movie i was a believer in the power of the human spirit....buy this movie it might just bring you something you have been searching forRead full review
This movie gets 4/5 stars. It was incredibly well shot. The soundtrack is AMAZING. Everything about it was completely fluid and enjoyable. On an intellectual level, I can see why some people might be offended by it. The whole idea of chaining a woman to a radiator in order to teach her a lesson is... well... against every tenet of the feminist movement. However, I don't think the movie is ABOUT that. It's about redemption, and it's about one man's attempt to redeem someone else. His methods are unconventional, and that's actually a very funny part of the movie. It is not a comedy, though there are comedic moments. It is not a tragedy, though there are certainly some heartbreaking movements. It's just a really interesting movie with an incredible soundtrack, some brilliant performances, and an absolute feast for the eyes (and I don't just mean Christina Ricci in her underwear - I mean, the whole she-bang. Every scene is so beautifully well shot, you just feel good watching it). You can argue the morality, but for pure aesthetics, you just can't beat it! -DanRead full review
Great flick- be sure to watch the additional feature (not long) titled "Conflict" or similar --regarding all of the obvious potential of the movie to be controversial. It includes good stories about how the movie came together. Samuel Jackson was the one actor they knew they had to have and he loved the script. The shocker was who took the roles played by Ricci and the amazingly talented Justin Timberlake. (I used to think he was a flake, but this dude has serious range from comedy to drama to song and I guess dance...probablyy more dance than song...but I dont have his albums ---but I have stopped dissing them!!!! Watch out for Ricci who actually tried out for the part and won it. In the end, and without any doubt, they verified she was really the only one who could have pulled off this part. Though risque, the underlying themes revealed the reason for the intensity of the gripping and unavoidably hot and steamy series that opens the movie and carries through into the middle of the film, until Samuel lays down the blues with thunder and lightning (literally) confirming his earlier statement "You will suffer me!" Superb. My wife cried at the end; and cried while she sang "my little voice" or somethin like that...so its ok for you ladies, as long as you can bare watching your man stare in wonder at Christina Ricci who I just cant NOT say is 1 (one)..... well.... very attractive female.Read full review
OK, This is one of those 'you love it' or 'hate it' movies. I believe it falls on the viewers own life as to how they take to the film. There will be more love than hate. This movie has an incredible cast and the story line which takes criticism in other reviews is a little on the simple side but really 'intensed' and 'juiced up'. Samuel Jackson is 'Lazarus' who plays the blues; a time he got Bojo's Juke Joint shakin' back in the day. Now he lives them through memory. Bitter and broken from a cheating wife and a shattered marriage, Lazarus' soul is lost in spent dreams and betrayal's contempt--until Rae ('Christina Ricci'!!). Half naked and beaten unconscious, is left for dead on the side of the road when Lazarus discovers her. The God-fearing, middle-aged Lazarus quickly learns that the young white woman he's nursing back to health is none other than the town tramp from the small Tennessee town where they live. Worse, she has a peculiar anxiety disorder. He realizes when the fever hits, Rae's affliction has more to do with love lost than any found. Abused as a child and abandoned by her mother, Rae is used by just about every man in the phone book. She tethers her only hope to Ronnie ('JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE' !!), but escape to a better life is short-lived when Ronnie ships off for boot camp. Desperation kicks in, as a drug-induced Rae reverts to surviving the only way she knows how, by giving any man what he wants to get what she needs--until Lazarus. Refusing to know her in the biblical sense, Lazarus decides to cure Rae of her wicked ways--and vent some unresolved male vengeance of his own. He chains her to his radiator, justifying his unorthodox methods with quoted scripture. Preacher R.L. intervenes, but it is Lazarus and Rae who redeem themselves. Unleashing Rae emotionally, Lazarus unchains his heart, finding love again in Angela (a pharmacy worker). By saving Rae, he frees himself! This was worth a trip to the MOVIE house for an $11.00 ticket and $10.00 for the soda and pop corn!! Now you can get it on Ebay for $5.00 and supply yourself the soda and popcorn at cheaper 'NON movie' prices! DON'T MISS THIS!! BUY IT OFF EBAY NOW!Read full review
