I had second thoughts about this product when I unpacked it. It looked small, only dug 4 inches down, but the reviews from other people looked good so I tried it out in the flower beds in the backyard first. It did very well, powered through the mulch and into the soil under it. I moved it slowly and actually dug itself deeper than 4 inches. It moved around the rose bushes and flowers without running them down or jumping out of control when hitting a stone or a large root. I had not turned over the soil in my vegetable garden yet so I used this tool to do it. Although the soil was free of clay I had thrown in some small sticks, wood chips, coffee grounds and a few 2 inch peat pots from seed failures to add to the mulch. It also had some new weeds and grass in full growth. The area is about 12 feet square and 6-8 inches deep. I finished turning it over in 12-15 minutes. The sticks, wood chips, weeds and old peat pots were no problem. I ran out of battery power, but in all fairness, I did do the flower bed with the same battery and went over several areas again in the vegetable garden. So the purchase of a second battery is a good idea. The cultivator is small enough to slip between plants in a small garden and powerful enough to do routine duties and there no gasoline engine to fuss over, no gas to buy, and if you have a raised garden no heavy equipment to haul over your timbers.Read full review

It is good for small area projects for mixing up the dirt and use for planting. Recommend the area to be moist; dryer areas need more time to cultivate.
