I bought this book for a general biology class I took over the 1st summer session in 2006. This text book gives a broad range of information pertaining to the study of biology, starting with atoms and molecules and then moving into details of DNA and RNA, and so on. This book shows pictures and diagrams to help in the understanding of material. I love the reviews at the end of each chapter. These reviews help you to know what to look for in your reading, if you do them before you read, and it helps you to know what you were expected to learn from the chapter if you do them last. The authors did a good job in breaking up the chapters into titled sections. For this reason, I was able to find information quickly by flipping through a few pages until I saw the title I was looking for, besides having to look through a bunch of small print for exactly what I needed. The CD that comes with the book is great. Definitely a tool worth using to help you understand the concepts. There were a few areas that I felt the author could have went into more detail to assure my understanding of the material. But because this was a general biology class, I guess the authors felt they didn't need to put so much detail into some topics. But that was only in a few cases, and I guess that's what teachers are for!!!Read full review
