First of all this is not my first water filter. I've used everything from Brita filters to the kind you hook up under the kitchen sink which I installed at my last residence. In my new home I began to research similar installed water filter systems only to come to the conclusion that even the better ones had many complaints about leaks and water damage. A relative of mine was using a Big Berkey instead and I noticed the water taste was superior to other filters that I have tried so I purchased one here on Ebay. I could not be more pleased. It's the best tasting filtered water I've had so far and the concept is simple enough. I've only had it a few weeks so I cannot say how long the two filters will last me but the calculator on Berkey's website figured about 6 years. Compared to how often I've had to replace other filters that by itself put this above others when you look at the life-value cost of this. Filtration of the water itself it a bit slow but that's why there is a 2 gallon cistern below. I don't mind refilling it throughout the week so it's fine to me but some folks may miss the filtered water on tap. The container is stainless steel so it's about as durable as anything gets and should last longer than I will. Another plus to me is that I can take this "investment" with me to my next home and not have to unhook anything to do it. My last water filter was left behind as it wasn't worth the trouble. I like this so much that I've decided it's the perfect family gift. The gift of healthy clean water!Read full review

The product looks as advertised. After reading so many reviews about the Berkey we expected wonderful tasting water. But this is not the case. We are still trying to get used to the unusual taste of the water, it has an odd and "flat" taste. I even re-cleaned and re-primed the filters and machine twice, but still not a good glass of water. This is from water from our well water from the kitchen sink. I wonder what it would be like to use water from a lesser quality source

We've had all types of water filters with the last being zero water. We liked the water but it was expensive to maintain and we were constantly filling it. This Berkey holds so much more and is much more durable. The water tastes better and the stainless steel spout is a great feature. I put off buying one of these for along time because of the price but after adding up the cost of the zero water filters we were using and the initial investment it made more sense to buy this because the filters lasted so much longer and the product is made of steel not plastic like everything else.

Travel berkey is the perfect size for our family of 3. Easy to assemble, easy to maintain, easy to operate...and the water is crystal clear, tastes great!

The Big Berkey was smaller than I expected, even though I was aware of the dimensions when I purchased. I am really glad I chose the big Berkey over the Traveler. I bought a pre-owned Big Berkey saving about $100. Not all sellers and products are equal so do comparisons closely if going that route. I did a lot of research. I love my Berkey. The design is simple. It's simple to use. I just ordered a clear spigot water level. My only complaint is having to shake or remove the top chamber to see the lower water level. If you overfill the top, it overflows the bottom chamber. I would purchase this again. I love it!
