There are many kinds of dementia (vascular, Alzheimer''s type, etc) and although this story doesn't define Betty's type, it does an excellent job of painting an image of the day to day work involved in adult children taking care of parents with dementia. What makes this story compelling is that it's told by a gay man who has to return to small town USA "temporarily" to help his mother, and is eventually able to not "act" like a "normal" man, but just lives true to himself. It's a well told story and enjoyable to read. Not an award winning book, maybe, but a well told, realistic, clever, and at times funny book.

Great book for anyone caring for an elderly parent while also trying to make sense of your own life , career and place in the world. Devastated to learn that the author committed suicide this summer. What a great loss.😢

I'm sorry for what George had to go thru but glad I was able to avoid this hard life. Taking care of an elderly and infirm parent is not for everyone but the author got thru it and lived to share. I've already recommended it to several friends.
