I liked all the patchwork patterns and picture afghans, and all the graphs seemed clear. The section on embroidery stitches was clear. However, to a new knitter or crocheter I dont think the instructions for knitting and crochet were as clear. The striped patterns for afghans featuring yarn scraps lacked interest. The plaids were nice. I like most any Better Homes and Gardens book but I would have liked to have seen a better layout for this book. The afghans are all pictured in the front and instrucions are in the back. I tend to llke to look at the picture of what I am making and having that picture with the pattern is easier than flipping back and forth. I would however, recommend this book to any afghan lover as there are some nice timeless patterns here.
This is a lovely collection of afghan patterns. There is a really nice variety of different designs. There are color photographs of each afghan, with clear instructions for making each one. The knitting & crochet patterns are all included in the book, so you'll be able to make all the designs shown. My copy of the book is hardcover with 80 pages. Contents are as follows: Fun To Make Scrap-Saver Designs Patchwork patterns for afghans and throws Classic Favorites in Both Techniques Stitcher's Notebook (stitch instructions, abbreviations etc.) Acknowledgements I really like most of the afghans in the book. There are very few "duds"; most of them are really nice. A couple of them are outstanding! My favorites: a classic argyle knit afghan (there is a crocheted argyle pattern, too, which is also nice); fisherman's aran style afghans- I love both the knit and crocheted versions presented in the book; and the "Flying Geese" knit afghan derived from the Flying Geese quilt block which is so popular with quilters. There are lots more really nice patterns, too. Overall this book is definitely worth buying if you like to knit or crochet and you have the patience to do a time-consuming project like an afghan. Especially considering that the copies you see online are usually pretty affordable!Read full review
This is an older book but with some new & updated yarns the patterns will look very nice. Don't go by the outdated pictures. A nice selection of both knit & crochet patterns. Happy Crocheting!
Like crocheted afghans in book...but loved the knit and purl one on the front cover...I'm not a knitter but I'm going to try that one for sure...didn't dislike anything about the book...great afghans...wish everyone could get this book...
This kit was appealing because it was a vintage pattern in colors that go with my home. It was sent in a timely manner and was exactly as advertised. It is now a work in progress, and will be beautiful when finished.
