I've always thought British sit-coms were infinitely superior to those made in the USA. They are vastly more compelling and humorous than ours as their humor and tension is a product of the "situation" set up by the plot whereas ours are just a bunch of "gag lines" thrown about with little regard for character development, interaction or half the time even congruence with the character delivering the line. Some years back friend lent me "Best of the Britcoms" to read. I was amazed at how many British Sitcoms there were and had always used what I'd remembered from reading the book as a "catalogue" of goodies to rent. I bought my own copy of "Best of the Britcoms" to have on hand and refer to in renting such goodies for our future laughing pleasures.
This is an excellent book for those wanting to to know more about British Comedy-when they ran,how many episodes and lots of "insider" information, very well done. The Brit Coms run on a lot pf PBS stations and are highly addictive. They can also be purchased on eBay
