The book was a comprehensive account of the 1936 Games. It showed how the Olympic Committee allowed itself to agree to having Germany host the Games while igoring the impending war. Especially interesting were the vignettes on various athletes, some well known and others forgotten by history. The author's interviews with surviving athletes from that time dispelled many myths regarding the Games,ie: Hitler snubbing Jessie Owens. After reading this book, the reader can see how the 2008 Games are mirroring the 1936 Olympics as a political statement.
