Have you ever watched a club make contact with the ball but not feel it at all? you kinda think you whiffed it but then look up to see it flying high and straight to the pin. This happens with the four sets of vintage Hogans I own. Two sets of Radials, one with apex shafts and the other with the excellent Vectors. The others are a pristine set of Bounce soles 1971 one with the apex 2 shaft. Put a moderate tempo swing on these and smile! The other with apex 3 with the same balance but requires a slightly accelerated pace. Mr Hogan was a Genius and a principled man committed to our progress and enjoyment of this "game". These Radials are super accurate and predictable. Just stay within yourself and let that beautifully designed club do the work. There is nothing in golf like hitting a radial pure...especially the long irons. I have 2 irons for each set. Do not hesitate in getting a set of these vintage forged marvels. NOTE: have the lie angle checked, they are a little short and adjusting the lie really zeroed them in. I will never buy an new set of irons..I have enough Hogans to use and pass on to my son. I even bought my wife a set of radials so she would quit using mine!!! Get some and give yourself some range time...you wont regret it! Using these clubs properly can teach you more about iron play than lessons. Best Regards!Read full review
I have been a blade iron player my entire life. I played Haig Ultras in high school in the late 60's and early early 70s. I bought my first set of brand new Hogan Apex blades in 1977. I still have both sets, and have added another set of 1975 Hogan Apex, and 80's Titleists blades and Yonex carbon fiber blades. However, this set of Hogan Radials is the easiest to hit set of forged irons (vintage) I have ever played. I highly recommend them to the mid-aged players like myself (57) who are looking for a forgiving blade, that still allows you to "work" the ball, something that I have found nearly impossible with the wide (modern) hybrid style irons on the market.
I bought these because I had always wanted to try a set of Hogan Radials. The set consisted of a 3 through wedge. The heads were in very good condition and looked like they were lightly played. The 4 and 3 iron looked as though they were stored and not used. The 3 and 4 had the original grips and the rest had the old swingright grips. All were rock hard and crumbling. I have stripped all of the old grips and have ordered new Winn grips. Before stripping the grips I did try hitting a few balls with the 9 iron. These were originally sold as game improvement clubs and are quite easy to hit. I would say they compare favorably with the pings I normally play with. If someone would like an easy playing iron with in traditional muscle back I would recommend them.
This is a classic old iron. I have wanted a set for a long time and there is no better place to find them than ebay. Ebay does an excellent job of managing sellers to ensure buyers are treated fairly and honestly. According to the Hogan web site these blade irons were manufactured in the late 80's through 92 but I think they were made prior to that time as well. I have no way of finding out what year my irons were made but it is irrelevant. They are excellent and relatively easy to hit for a blade. I would recommend anyone grab a set of these if you get the opportunity.
Even thogh these iron are more than 20 years old, they perform like a dream. It's so easy to get ball in the air, and ball flight is so consistent. I am lucky to find a complete set in mint condition on ebay, highly recommend these irons, if you can find a good set, go get one. These are irons are well built, very nice looking and well balanced.
