I am brand new to belly dancing (just started with this DVD yesterday) and I think it is an amazing tool for beginners like me. I have always wanted to learn how to do this and these lovely ladies are wonderful teachers. The sisters show you step by step what to do, and make it look so easy. In addition, it explains how each moves help particular muscles, and that is perfect for those of us that need to lose a few pounds and inches around the midsection, thighs, legs or buttocks. I know it is going to take a long time before I can dance a fraction as well as Veena and Neena, but watching their beautiful and graceful moves inspires me to keep trying. I'll quickly start by saying there are actually two different workouts on this DVD! The first is a slower workout, but still moves your body and strengthens. The second will kick your a@@! If you've ever seen Neena and Veena on YouTube where they are wearing the HOT PINK outfits and rocking it...that IS the second workout on here! Now for a more detailed report... The first work out is slower, but still gets you moving. It's far better than doing no exercise at all. I've also seen this workout on youtube and utilized it from youtube on days I didn't have the energy to do something more vigorous, but didn't want to take the day off from exercising completely. This routine is perfect for that...or for someone just starting out who needs to take things lighter at first. The first routine does offer a little bit of explanation regarding the moves, but not as much detail in that area as other basic move videos I've seen. I don't believe it was Neena and Veena's intention to make this a complete "breakdown" video, but a work out...and that it is. If you really want to learn bellydance you might need more break down descriptions than what is here, but as for just moving and getting your blood circulating and your muscles working...I'm sure most anyone could follow this with enough effectiveness to get physical results. I took 6 years of both private and classroom setting bellydance classes, so I don't turn to Neena and Veena videos to "learn" basic moves, but I also don't find their videos boring in the way I would find a typical "basic moves break down" video because this keeps moving at all times. I turn to Neena and Veena videos to "work out" because that's what these two girls excel at in video presentation of bellydance material. I find regular exercise too boring and I won't do it. But I love bellydance and that I will do. Neena and Veena offerings are for days I don't want to think too much about learning a choreography but I want to MOVE. In this regard I feel they could have titled this better because any dancer beyond beginner level might pass this up because they will think it is just a "break down" video. It isn't. It's a great way to get an amazing work out utilizing bellydance moves. The second workout will kick your behind! It is definitely high impact at times, whereas the first workout is NO impact. But you can easily modify movements here to bring the impact down to a comfortable level and you will still feel you worked hard. I modify some of the moves myself and I don't feel like I'm lacking any benefit. So, you might ask, if I was watching these two workouts on youtube, why did I buy this? The quality on youtube is poor but I appreciated being able to really see what was offered here by seeing it on youtube. I always figured I'd buy this at some point and I'm really glad I did! I love this and the fact that there are two workouts on here makes it all the more worth it! It's a score even if one paid $20, though you can find if for much less. Each workout section is about 1/2 hour. There is also a section with various performances where you can see how many of the moves presented as "exercises" are now in the dance. Plus some of the costumes are very pretty. I have to give it 5 stars because Neena and Veena deliver excellently what they intended to deliver...a fun and effective way to get into shape and exercise using the beautiful moves of bellydance. I love to dance!!I bought The Bellydance Fitness for Beginners - Basic Moves and Fat Burning (DVD, 2001) and was immediately impressed with the number of muscles worked on this excellent video. Other videos I've owned have similar menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the video if you're on a budget and looking to get low impact workout with a little relaxation.
I bought this because I love using bellydance as a supplement to my regular workout routine. I've done a few work-outs with Meena and Veena on Youtube, but with loading time etc. it could be 3 hours for a 45 minute workout! This is a great DVD to have on hand when you want to tone up your abs or just change up your routine; it's invigorating and empowering! I will definately consider purchasing other DVDs from this series as well! Happy dancing
I went all the way through this DVD without stopping. The movement is slow and easy. Unlike other DVD I have used they move easily from one step to the next. I thoroughly enjoyed the work out and will use it much more in the future. I have always wanted to move with more fluidity and this will help. If you want a smooth less bone jarring workout this is the DVD for you!
