The Behringer um300 is essentially a Boss Metal Zone in a pink plastic box. It has, in effect, the same controls and same sound. Some may even feel the um 300 sounds better. Search you tube and you’ll find some shootouts of the Behringer vs. the Boss. That is what sold me on the um300. I found mine for $30 on e bay, brand new in the package. I was disappointed when I put the battery in, hooked it up, and was greeted with loud bunch of static. Clearly the unit was not working properly. Dismayed, I took the cover off the back and examined the insides for an obvious flaw. I found none and replaced the cover. To my surprise, the thing has worked flawlessly ever since. That experience gives me some second thoughts about their quality. I’m not sure what was wrong with it or what miracle I inadvertently performed, but the unit is ok now. On to the heart of the matter; the construction of the pedal is solid enough. The housing is made of tough ABS plastic that has a heavy metal base plate screwed to it. That plate gives heft to the otherwise lightweight unit. Unless you are stomping on it with all your might, it’s not going to snap apart. The switch is located under the footpad, with the battery. To access the switch and battery you simply push two hinge tabs in with a pen tip and voila, you’re in. The control pots operate fine and give a very broad range of tones. You can get anything from a little fuzz to screaming metal. There are plenty of tonal possibilities and the equalizer functions offer a very diverse range of lows, mids, and highs. I’m pleased with the sound. Like I say, it’s really a copy of the metal zone. A 9 volt battery will power the unit, however, I like to use an adapter just so I don’t lose power when I don’t expect it. It has a blue indicator light that is very bright. Overall I’m happy with my purchase. I would try another Behringer product.Read full review
if you want to get a boss metal zone but don't want to spend the bucks, check out this behringer ulttra metal pedal. it's made of heavy duty plastic so you're not pay for a metal cast . it has the 4 frequency band controls that you find on the metal zone. these 4 controls give it a fairly wide range of uses. i got it to use to get a rockman type of sound and to get that vintage gallien-kruger ml250 sound. it takes a universal ac adapter. i'm enjoying mine. rockers only!

The Behringer ultra metal is a clone of a Boss Metal Zone MT2 as with all clones it's not exactly the same in tone as the original , the boss has more scoop and fat low end than the UM300 . But.....the Behringer is no slacker either in bottom end tone , it's tone is the same as the boss but slightly softer ,smoother and less aggressive than the Boss, which in my opinion gives it ,it's own character and is sometimes just what you are looking for , meaning it's better for some tones than the boss and not as good on others, it all depends on what makes your ears happy , I use them both side by side with one set for one tone and the other for a different tone. all in all I like the Behringer UM300 and it has a permanent place in my set up . if you're on a budget or just want an affordable option ,this is the pedal of choice for a fat chunky chug . it's a Thumper !Read full review
