I bought these phones to replace an old set, that was a favorite of mine for tracking in my home studio. I specifically chose the HPX4000s for the 'leak resistant' aspect I've read about in several reviews. These are fairly tight on the head, which can be uncomfortable in 'on-the-ear' style phones...but then I have a large head (ask anyone who knows me well). I found them to be ok, after I'd worn them long enough for them to 'adapt' to my head and ears (several hours - which WERE uncomfortable). I found the earcup size and relatively tight band to work to my advantage, when I used them to track with one cup on and one off. The swivel feature (designed for DJ use), made it possible to wear the phones hands free, but still 'sound isolated' from the mic with only one cup on my ear...the other cup stayed tight to my head and acted as a cushioned clamp. As for sound quality, these phones are decently balanced and un-hyped. There is enough seperation to have a sound field, but there is a lack of detail and depth you would find in any high quality studio monitor headphones. But of course those would set you back $100 or more. At their price point, the HPX4000 headphones seem to be a relative bargain. I'd say thumbs up, for what they are.Read full review
