I belong to a gaming clan that has centered itself around the Call of Duty series. But since the brainfarts attributed to last two releases (World at War, Modern Warfare 2), we are looking for a replacement. I purchased BF2 in hopes of finding that replacement. I was hoping to find a game that had the smooth gameplay, realistic movement and physics of COD. In that arena, BF2 disappoints. But, what I found was a game that offers features that COD doesn't. Such as vehicles, more varied weapons, and the ability to command a squad. BF2 strikes a balance between FPS and strategy giving up a little on both sides to make a complete package. I suppose it could be described as a First Person Strategy. So, will BF2 replace my clan's hub? Unlikely. But we are optimistic that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will get the job done.Read full review
Loved it! Very realistic modern warfare game that I truly enjoy. The EAX 5.1 surround effects are really something else, I can hear what direction shots are coming from or where jets and choppers are! You can even hear an unsuspecting sniper bullet missing you, and tell what direction it came from as it whizzes by! Incredibly versatile, so many different things to do like ground infantry/gunner, or sniper with 3 different rifles, or you can fly an apache chopper with a buddy in the gunner seat (thats what my friend and I like to do)... or you can fly a jet! I think theres 9 different jets? and some of them have a 2nd seat for a buddy to fire powerful guided missiles! You can even eject and use your parachute! Heavily damaged jets will catch fire and explode eventually if not repaired. Maps go from very small infantry only, to gigantic maps that would literally take about 30 minutes to walk on foot from one side to the other!.. but of course you would most likely fly a jet or at least hop in a transport chopper. There are dune buggies and jeeps, even a semi rig! about 30 different kinds of vehicles, from heavily armored 4-machinegun havin missile packing AA batteries to 4-wheelers... too many to list! Get the expansion packs, they are worth it! Special forces doesnt have any jets, but you have a few extra weapons and utilities to your advantage such as... grappling hooks to climb ontop of buildings and towers, zip lines to slide from a higher spot (good for getting down from high spots and covering medium distances), gas grenades that heavily affect sight (counter with gas mask), and night vision! special forces has 4 wheelers too... I love strapping a few packs of C4 on it and sending it right at the enemy }: You can also be the team commander and get a very unique HUD. A commanders main job is to coordinate platoons and tell them where to go and what to defend. Commanders can use satellite and radar to point out the enemy, he can also drop supplies, transport vehicles and giant pieces of lead! Artillery! With satellite view, the commander can see any part of the map at any time... in real time! It takes a lot of skill and teamwork to be a good commander! A critical role! The ranking system is done well in my opinion. The highest rank is 5-star general, and ive never seen one yet. It is a game that you can play for a long time and still have something to look forward too... I dont like games that I can reach max level in a short period, this is not a problem for BF2. There are many sub-challenges such as getting so many kills within a time period with a certain weapon or vehicle. You earn ribbons and badges this way, there are awards for every aspect of the game... but some are very tough to get! The graphics are outstanding! At max setting, everything is very smooth and detailed.... even the grass sways and bends like it dynamic. Cool muzzle flashes, bullet impacts and explosions! The video options menu allows you to control every aspect of gameplay. You can even change your crosshair color! Network play works really good. I like the built in server menu, its easy to find a certain map or a low ping game. You can host your own internet game server too, or play on a LAN. I give it 5 stars out of 5!!!Read full review
Battlefield 2 is my favorite all-time 1st person shooter game. The physics of the vehicles and the different guns are amazingly accurate, the graphics are great considering this game was released several years ago. They did everything right with this one. I was very hesitant considering the problems with the very first original release of BF 1942 (needed some HUGE patches to get the game to play correctly). However, everything is great with this. The online game play is great and the game is really set up to encourage teamwork and discourages the people that would come on and start team-killing all over the place. Now, if you do that, your ranking will go down. The ranking system on this game is great and really encourages you to continue spending time playing the game. One great addition to this game is the commander mode. I really enjoy playing in this mode, though watch out for games with 'commanders' that don't help out much during the game. A good commander will be able to direct the game, direct his team to objectives, provide support for them, and help out in the game-play as well. Sniper kit usually works well for a commander.Read full review
It's cool to have all the packs on one disk, but now it serves no purpose whatsoever. You are better off getting the deluxe edition of this game as you can download the booster packs as part of the 1.50 patch of BF2. The booster pack on the disk needs a online code, which EA shut down the link awhile back. There is also no more gamespy, which means no online. Battlelog fixes that, and they give you all of your stats back if you remember all the login info. This game is still damn good, just old and a little hard to get if you been playing the new battlefields for a while.

Buy it and play it. You will enjoy it! Just be careful as it does have very specific graphics requirements. My new computer is much newer than this game and has a great vid card, but it doesn't appear it is compatible with BF2. :(Read full review
