This is a cute movie, as you would expect with any movie featuring Barbie doll as the heroine. The movie features choreography by Peter Martins as performed for animation by dancers of the New York City Ballet - which I found very impressive! The music also features the music of Tchaikovsky as performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. However, in my opinion the movie looks like it was created in a bit of a rush and there are some slight imperfections throughout. One of them is that the audio and animation aren't synched as well as they could be; When Barbie and the other characters speak, their lips aren't moving in synch with what their voices are saying. (Picky picky, I know, but this detracted from my enjoyment of the movie overall.) It's still an enjoyable movie, and I think Barbie fans would like it.Read full review
Barbie has been viewed a nothing more than a marketing tool to sell clothes, doll houses, and loads of other toys to little girls. She's still that too often, but the movies are trying to motivate girls into believing in what they can do,facing fears and finding value in themselves and in others. The writers use the ballet as a starting point and, as in other Barbie movies, weave a clever story that helps build self-esteem while entertaining with interesting characters, plenty of magic, and dance. Gentle yet strong in scoring points about growing up, taking chances and following your path the film is very positive without being abrasive.
My granddaughter loves this movie we watch it every night before bed. Great movie. If you have anything else in Barbie movies let me know. Thanks so much.

We watched Fairytopia first, and Bibble was like a preschool version of Jar-Jar. It was on the painful side of, well, badness. But the little one liked it, and that's what counted. Adults will notice that the Nutcracker wasn't as smooth with the animation, but they did a fantastic job with the story, and tied it in to the ballet very well. As background noise, it can't be beat. The voice talent was quite talented, and it wasn't super sugary dialogue. She thought the intro/story setup was a bit boring, but it's over fairly quick. Clara falls asleep about ten minutes in. From there on it managed to keep her attention quite well. I thought she would get bored with the extended dancing scenes, but she was completely entranced. This is a movie that I could watch again (and probably will many times, so that is a huge plus). A good buy for a 5-year-old girl.Read full review
My 4-yr-old LOVES this movie & cannot sit still during certain songs...she HAS to dance. The visuals make it fun to watch & even adults may enjoy this. NOTE: very sensitive shildren may be upset by the violence & suspense. All Barbie movies have REALLY nasty villains but are VERY visual with great music & some humor throughout.
