There are several Baby Einstein board books - they receive top ratings for the actual concept of a splash proof, floating book that can be enjoyed in and out of the bath! However where the other title I reviewed, Mimi's toes, recieved top marks for its simple rhymes, repetition that prompts a child to join in with the story and delightful text - this book quite frankly puzzles me! It could have been a great story and / or rhyme about pond life; however, there is no real story at all...sure we have a little tadpole that explores his surroundings and meets various pond life along the way....but the text jumps all over the place with no pattern , no rhyming and it is neither fun to read or enjoyable for a young child to listen too!! Then there are the creatures he sees - a duck okay, fish yes....but a Salamander....come on, if this is a simple board book why not stick to simple recognizable creatures. Perhaps life we may see on a local pond, and words that are simple so a child might be able to repeat them.....Salamander is not one such word! There is alos a lot of word play, so a child is never going to be able to repeat this story as is the case with the other publication - Mimi's toes!! This is a great idea, but the writing fails to delight!! It had so many possibilities but for us, this is not a winner!Read full review
I bought four bath time books from Baby Einstein for my 7-month-old daughter, and one of them is 'Who Lives in the Pond?' My baby loves these bath time books - and I like them because they make our bath time fun and enjoyable. Before these books, I could not make my baby stay long enough in the bathtub to finish her bath. She was not fond of bath water. Now we have a little routine - I let her pick two books out of four and read each book to her before and after washing her body. The first book relaxes her, and she no longer tries to escape from water while I wash. She patiently waits for the second book. She almost always picks 'Who Lives in the Pond?' as her first book - it must be her favorite. At first all she wanted to do was to lick it as it floats in the bathtub and played with it very much like yellow rubber duckies. But after reading it to her a few times, she giggles with rhythmical lines and stares and points to the vivid colored pictures. Vinyl exterior makes it easy to clean and dries fairly quick. All of these books contains short stories (10 pages long with a few lines in each page) and can be read in a minute or so. So, it does not add too much time to her bath time, and I have an option of omitting bedtime books if I gave her a bath before her bed time. My only concern is that my daughter might grow out of these books rather quickly since they are short - and, eventually I will have to buy other bath books to entertain her. But for now, this book is exactly what we needed for her bath time!Read full review
I started to "read" this book with my son when he was only a month old. At first he just liked to look at the vibrant colors. It didn't take long for him to start recognizing the characters and squealing with anticipation. Now at 6 months he has a more hands-on approach. This soft book is great for scrunching and for gnawing on too. In spite of its use and abuse, the book still looks new.
This is a great little book with colorful pictures and enough words on the pages to stimulate older kids to read. Babies love to listen to it read and love it even better in the bath tub. Of course it is a favorite toy to chew for infants. I bought this with a set of four other Baby Einstein books which are also very good. I highly recommend this product.
We could read all day. My little one loves to have this in the bath with her, otherwise we would have no bath time!! Goofy Girl! She loves the frog, she has an Aunt Jody and we call her Toad and that is why this book is special. Thank god it floats. The story is great the tadpole is great, teaching all about other animals. The illustrations are nice.
