I enjoyed the movie. Kristy Swanson is good, comparisons with SMG are unfair. Donald Sutherland makes the movie. Buffy's social set is lame and shows just how groundbreaking the tv series was. Pardon me, full disclosure, I went to Van Nuys Hi and tune in to airhead Valley-girl cliches. Lindsey and her social set do airhead better in Mean Girls, and we have the Clueless movie and countless tv shows. To the extent that airhead Valley-girl is real it is a horrible indictment of public education. The beginning of the movie when Buffy learns that she is the chosen one seems a little forced. Buffy is really going to go to a graveyard with a man she has known for 15 minutes? She doesn't believe that she is the chosen one nor does she want to be. Why would she go with Sutherland to the graveyard? Once there the action heats up. I thought stunt sequences were good considering the film was made in 1992. Luke Perry plays a James Dean like figure. Luke is decent as a love interest for Buffy but he is surely no James Dean, nor is Kristy any Sarah Michelle Gellar. So, enjoy this movie for what it is. Enjoyable, lightweight, decent soundtrack, no Willow character nor any support network for Buffy that occur in the tv series. Watching this movie makes one appreciate the tv series all the more.Read full review
Joss Whedon's very fine, whimsical approach to Valley Girl v Dracula! Really very fun, entertaining and engaging! It made me a Whedon and Christy Swanson fan. Luke Perry, Donald Southerland, David Arquette, Paul Rubens, Rutger Hauer, Ben Affleck (has a bit part)...

I purchased this to complete my Buffy collection, movie was far less impressive than the TV show version but still worth buying if like me you want a complete collection.

The movie is very funny if you dont take it too seriously, it's light and great for a night when you just want to relax at home and take it easy. I would totally recommend it for any one who either has a love of vampires, a great sense of humor or is at heart a true romantic because this covers all three bases.
I remember when this first came out. With the cast, it can be quite funny.
