the sign of a true artist, those with real, tangible talent that spans many years, encompasses a multitude of styles, are those who can truly stand alone. what makes this album shine, in my eyes, is springsteens ability to song write, and perform, without the aid of high technology and gadgetry. sure, it ain't perfect, but the message is clear: sometimes less really is more. a voice, a guitar, and a few tracks about real life, and how it really is. gritty, deliberate, painful, and at times, touching. thanks, bruce.and, hey, if you liked this enough, give the seeger sessions (we shall overcome) a listen. cdknight,jr.

Some of Bruce's best work! His darkest album, just think of where he had to go to write it. Tough stuff. Johnny 99, Nebraska, etc yikes....stories about "places that you don't talk about at parties" Ghost of Tom Joad also a great album by the Boss, has similarities but is more hopeful, but honest in it's depiction of the southwest for mexican immigrants
