I am very pleased with the MFC-9840cdw,it replaces a brother inkjet that lasted for years BUT the price of ink was too much, I think the ink dries out if not used frequently, the laser does not have that issue. It operates very well, it takes a little while to print out first page (45 secs.) the results are good, photo printing is a little less vivid than an ink jet, but not bad, text & color graphics are great, so far no complaints, easy to use just follow directions & wireless hookup was painless. I have used all the features on this machine & all performed well. best feature is full duplex ! in all modes. This printer is built to last for many years with proper care.
This is the best AIO printer $650 can buy.(PERIOD). Of course its bulky and heavy and can be loud at times; but the people that worry about those characteristics shouldn't be buying a laserjet anyway. Other than that; it may lack a color touchscreen considering, the amount of various menus. It may also be a little slow on duplex scans and prints. Now that all of the "cons" are out of the way, one should know that ALL of them combined do not jeopardize the integrity and versatility of this amazing AIO (All In One). The print quality is excellent. Compatibility and network connectivity are seamless. This is the first printer I have owned with automatic duplexing, and that is simply because I can't afford a $3000 Xerox machine. As I write this I'm sitting at my part-time desk with a Xerox Workcentre Pro c2128 right behind me. Honestly, the only features it has and the Brother lacks is stapling and a 2000 page tray capacity. For the difference approximately 2400$ and a SH**ty scanning quality, I'll take the Brother any day. I don't know about everyone else, but since I use a printer to print and a scanner to scan and a copier to copy, I still haven't played with all of the features yet. The facts are: the printer prints higher quality pages faster, scans higher quality digital copies, and makes great copies faster than any other unit in this price range. Don't buy it if you print 50 or 100 pages a month and at the same time I wouldn't recommend it to support all of your Fortune 500 business's printing needs. The bottom line is the top line:"This is the best AIO printer $650 can buy.(PERIOD)."Read full review
I gave this unit only 3 stars because it came with a melfunctioning document feeder. It took me 1.5 hrs to repair the problem and good think is that I fix these machines. I got a good deal on it, in ovearall it is a good performing machine and I can not blame the seller for what happenes in the factory on the assembly line. Comparing to other color MFC's this machine is easy to install and operate. Color quality is very good. Cost of the supplies is about average. If you are looking for a work horse color MFC this may be the one to get.
Set up was a breeze to get this machine up and running. You simply can't get a color laser with FAST ADF scanning and autoduplexing for this price point. And it appears to be built to last. Previous HPs and Brothers I set up for printing/scanning across a wireless home network were fickle. But not the MFC-9840CDW. My only word of caution: have a friend to help place the printer. It weighs a lot!!
What do I like about it? It's a color laser, it's wireless and the ADF is duplex for both scanning and copying. What don't I like about it? The cost of the consumables (toner, drum), but then that's how all the vendors make their money on these things. The PaperPort scan software is good and I use it to scan manuals and convert them to .PDF, then OCR them.
