As a fan and collector of Harrison's for over 30 years I USED to be first in line opening day for his films. I have never read the book this is based on. To be honest, I had never heard of it. I thought the special effects were a bit much, over done and not realistic looking. Spoiler, it took quite a bit of time to bring Oscar winner Ben Kingsley into the film. Harrison, Ben and Viola Davis did good jobs with their roles and this is not to be surprised. Oscar winner & two Oscar nominees Good extras on this package. For fans of the stars and fans of sci fi or the book.
Bugs check. Twisted family stories check. War games check. Strategy check. Interesting character as the lead role check. Deception check. Great story.

It has been several years since I had seen this movie and this is the first I finally got to see the last half hour of the movie. It does have a couple of slow points in the movie however each time it doesn’t last long. There could have been a bit more character development between Ender and the young lady who befriended him. This however was not detrimental to the movie but did leave you wondering.

Astonished by the story and the young star. This movie thrilled and fascinated me. I will be reading the book because the movie characterization of Ender (played by Asa Butterfield) shows an extraordinary person not easily, convincingly, found anywhere in cinema; a child's intelligence disciplined to the degree that we see a boy who truly blurs the line between child and adult. I figure it can only happen in a writer's mind and am grateful to the director for aiming so well at the writer's concept. Even if the question of age is not on target for some, the result raises eyebrows and makes age and maturity more of a mystery than I ever thought possible. Ender is obviously a child, but is gifted with a self-awareness that no child possesses. His military severity, coupled with great empathy and compassion, makes him much more than his age. But his innocent face begs the question, what is appropriate or inappropriate to have a child do, even at our country's most desperate hour? As if fighting and war are somehow more moral than any number of crimes against children. Of course, I value this movie for the way it uses fiction to make me think and not to get all wrapped up in serious issues. But I find it amazing that the boy-man concept could be brought to the screen so perfectly, so intelligently, in the performances of all involved. It's haunting and this is definitely one for my collection.Read full review
Like all Noel to movie convertions the book takes time to tell the transfermation of the main character but the movie was very rushed but got the main points.
