The title was what drew me to this book. I had no idea that I would be so pleasantly suprised. This wonderful book took me back to my childhood on so many pages.I traveled back in time to my Uncle's home when it was time to grind sugar cane and make syrup.I could almost taste the foam off the cooking pots of cane syrup, that we children were given,as a treat,to lick off a spoon. I could almost see that old mule of his walking around in circles to grind the stalkes of cane. The recipes contained in this book are so accurate that I could almost see my Grandma,Granny, and Aunt at work in their kitchens. The smells of those kitchens had been so long forgotten, until I read this book.My mother was a good cook also, but not in the fashion of my Grandma,Granny, and Aunt. I would highly recommend this absolutely wonderful cookbook to anyone who has an interest in learning,(or remembering),the cooking and lifestyles of the 'olden' people who shaped this great country, especially of the South.Read full review
