Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Signal Processors/Rack Effects
The reason for the purchase of the SPL3220 was to reinforce the audio on an FM radio station. I originally had a Behringer MDX 8000 Combinator 4 band processor but, regretfully I sold it years ago. I am on a budget and was looking for a multi-band audio processor and did some reading on this unit. The SPL3220 (2 band-processor) is actually a discontinued model. After receiving the brand new unit I put it to the test. I was pretty impressed. It takes a little tweeking but, It sounds good coming directly from the mixing console and going to the transmitter. The limiter held the audio levels and didn't have the pumping effect caused in wide band limiters. I also tried it on a PA system. This model also came with a 3-Year Warranty through Music-Group (Behringer Distributor).

This product works quite well, and is quite transparent sounding too. It is very limited on adjustment however, which can be both good and bad. It balances the "Normalizer" with the "Limiter".. with one single balance control. It is not a powerful "brick-wall" limiter, (more of a soft knee) but is very close, and for many applications would be completely adequate. It does seem to work best with most settings set at about midway. It also has a "sweet spot" where it works best. Outside of the sweet spot, the sound changes somewhat (sounding more or less dense and processed). Being an analog unit, there was no apparent latency. I would recommend it for home use (where input levels are more consistent)... and could see some application for pro use as well. I do not recommend it for slow auto leveling where more control is needed, or for broadcast use. It is appealing cosmetically, although the face does not line up with the rest of your rack equipment (it sticks out much further). The flip down cover does not seem to be removable, and is quite dark to try to see though. The "refurb" unit I purchased arrived like brand new.. boxed like new, no scratches, and display film protector... and the price was excellent. It did not serve my intended purpose, but I believe I can still find a home for it elsewhere.Read full review

Those who say they are broadcast professionals and like this unit are NOT. Nothing like the DSP-8024 or the DSP-1424; this unit is a far cry from anything remotely labeled and processor. Hard to set, hard to use, poor dynamic range, and unsuitable for broadcast as you cannot get a solid level between 95% and 105% modulation. The compressor is great, but add in the limiter and it is not great. The Ultramizer function does not, and there is no noticeable effect from turning the Ulltramizer level. I would not recommend to anyone, except for an office wanting peak limited in loud music.

My experience was with three units. Only one worked great and sound was like equipment costing hundreds of dollars. But the other 2 were less than acceptable. Refurbished might be the best way to go
