I use this for two purposes - one is with a big condenser mic for recording voice, and the other is as a direct box for recording my bass guitar. The color it gives to the sound is definitely tubey, because it's produced by an actual vacuum tube. It's very quiet with the microphone and also with the bass when the gain is low, but you start to hear the classic tube buzz when the gain is high. Even at low gain, though, you still hear the tube doing its thing.

My review title sums it up. These are tremendous little beasts. I recorded 3 of my 19 albums using these. I give them to friends as Christmas presents. Yes, pricier preamps sound a bit better... but not by much, if you use a decent mic, proper technique, and correct gain staging. I am very fond of these little things. ❤️

Its a decent Pre-Amp; I really enjoy how it sounds on Bass and Acoustic Guitar. Right now I am using it in conjunction with the PreSonus Comp16. Together, they are producing more noise in the signal than I would have liked, but I'm sure if I spend more time mastering the different settings I'll be over to overcome that in my tracks. Definitely warms up the signal and ads a discernable difference over solid state pre-amps. Good value for the $.
Great sound and warmth to my mic setup!
