I always wanted to read this 12 issue run, but missed everyone of the single issues. Thankfully this Trade Paperback saves me the trouble of tracking them down. I'm not a huge fan the minutia of comic countinuity...but this book is full of it and i love it. Using Kang the Conqueror (the blue faced purple suited time traveler)and his unwanted future self as Imortus, Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern tell a insanely-confusingly fun story that revisits a gazillion past Avengers stories and incorparates them into this constatnly twisting and shocking story (and lets not forget fun). The best part of this book, is that it revisits a lot of seemingly conflicting countinuity and reveals the reasons behind them, which is of course the constant tampering of Kang and Imortus (which are the same guy in different times of their lives). Does your brain hurt yet? It gets much more complicated, but even if you didn't read most of the originals Avenger books (which is virtually impossible) which this story constantly invades; you most certianly will get the jist of it. The best part is that you can tell the writers had a blast weaving this little yarn. Unlike a lot of comics that tend to over explain away certian comic history, this one really just seems to be having fun with it, while still keeping you totally glued to each turned page. The enormous fight scenes could not have been better realized. There is just too much to look at...trying to figure out which time, or which alternate storyline each character is from really adds to the overall fun of this read. I very rarely read a book of this size in one sitting, but i could not go to sleep untill i finished it. Not only was the end worth the wait for once, but getting there was a constantly enjoyable.Read full review
