With a cardioid pickup pattern and a smooth uniform response over a frequency range of 40-20kHz, the ADX51 microphone is precision machined from solid brass with a low reflective black e-coat finish. The Audix ADX51 is designed with low noise electronic circuitry, balanced output, and switches that enable a 10dB pad and a bass roll-off. The ADX51 is a road-worthy microphone capable of handling high sound pressure levels of 142dB. Perfect mics!
I am a studio drummer and I have been through many overhead and cymbal mics over the years and the Audix ADX51 does not disappoint! I have three total and use them in a variety of different applications. On amp cabs they sound great with exceptional clarity. On keyboard amps they are very detailed an don't miss any of the low end frequencies. But when it comes to drums, these babies are the king of affordable overhead mics! When positioned correctly they have no sound bleeding from other instruments and still manage to pick up every detailed roll and tap that you can manage no matter how lightly you strike (just remember mic position is always important). I have Sabian Vault series cymbals that have an amazing sound that is only reproduced by these mics! I have found that cymbals have the most difficult time with sound reproduction when recording but not with the Audix ADX51! I highly recommend these to anyone looking to take their recordings to the next level!Read full review

Considering its price point, this is a mic to add to your collection.
Amazing mic, especially for its price point. I've only had mine for a week and have used it in a number of different applications. This mic immediately brought to life the violin in a worship band environment. Worked equally well on percussion in a large club without the need for side-chain compression or gating. Just purchased 2 more based on these experiences.

An excellent all purpose small diaphram condenser mic
The ADX-51 is an excellent small diaphram condenser mic. Very clean sound and sounds pretty big with mild signal processing, though it is very accurate even w/o any signal processing other than a mic pre. Normal retail of about $275 is maybe more than what I would pay for this mic, I might seek something else, like step up to the Rode NT55 if I was spending that much. But for $250/pair on eBay, the ADX-51s are an excellent deal. The mic is an excellent workhorse mic amenable to multiple micing applications.
