This Astron power supply is solidly built, small size and runs quiet. With 50 amps peak (40 amps continuous) I can run two radios with no problem. Switching PS can introduce noise but the filters seem adequate for HF use. Power is supplied through a three prong cord, with the metal case grounded. I use 45-amp PowerPoles into a distribution block and couldn’t be happier. Would recommend and would buy again.

Best Quality Switching Power Supply for the money. Light weight, compact and has an external voltage fine tune adjustment to make voltage adjustment should it ever become necessary do to slight changes over the years of use you can expect to get from this well built unit. Built by Astron one of the oldest high quality power supply builders in the industry. I have been using Astron power supplies for 35+ years and never had one fail but if you do they are a great company to deal with and repairs are never a problem. I owned a CB Radio Shop for many repairs and the only time I ever had to repair these were when customers overloaded them trying to use one that was way to small for their needs.

This is a very good power supply for amateur (ham) radio use. I've been using it to run 2 repeaters for the past year. I like it so much, I bought a second one for my home shack where I use it on HF, VHF and UHF on a Yaesu FT-991. For the one running the repeaters, when everything is keyed up, it pulls a continuous draw of around 30 amps from this supply, and it doesn't seem to bother it. Sometimes during nets and rag-chews, the repeaters (linked full time together) are transmitting for 2 hours or more. This supply seems to handle the demand just fine. I detect no RFI from the switching part of this supply. Astron seems to have done a good job suppressing it. The only negative could be the constant fan noise if it's for personal use. For repeater operations, it doesn't matter much to me as the fans on the repeater amplifier are louder. When using the second one at the home shack, I have it sitting low under my desk, so most of the constant fan noise is muffled. To get 50 amps surge / 40 amps continuous from such a relatively small and light and inexpensive supply (compared to a linear supply of the same output) I'd say this thing is a big winner, and I highly recommend it.Read full review

I am using the SS-50M to supply my power needs for four transceivers and it would probably take care of more, but that is all I am using at the moment. It has more than enough power for my HF, 144 MHz, 220 MHz, and my 440 MHz radios. It does the job with no fuss and no noise that I am aware of. I am completely satisfied thanks to Astron!!!

most complained about the fan being too loud. Apparently they have addressed this. Seems the fan has a possibility of 3 speeds. I have only heard or felt 2 of them . Low speed si very very quiet. I can hear it "kick" into speed 2 but again very quiet. I have not "maxed" the supply out hard enough to acquire hi speed on the fan. If using on 80M or 160m type radio it does crate a static level as some switchers do. no birdies though.
