This book was recommended to me by my niece who swore by it as her bible to growing up during puberty/adolescence. In turn, I have given it to my granddaughters to help them understand what is going on with them physically and even emotionally as they venture into the beginning years of "womanhood." My thought is that if it was written by Judy Blume and carried by elementary school libraries, it must be a book worth reading.

I am a second grade teacher who loves to read and teach children the love of reading. This book was my favorite as a child, and I wanted to share it with my students. I try and teach my students that through books they can travel to far away places and meet and learn about different characters from different backgrounds and ethnic groups. Reading opens the doors to many exciting and new adventures for my students. Through reading they can experience and learn about how people from all over the world live, deal with problems, and experience positive experiences that will help mold them into productive members of society.
I bought this book because I read it as a young girl and loved it. I cherished every word becuase it answered all of the questions I had about growing up and my changing body. I grew up in a very conservative, church of christ home and my experience of reading this book makes me laugh. I would sit in my closet with the door closed to read it secretly becuase I thought it was sinful. How sad that organized religion can make young girls feel guilty about their naturally human curiosity. Getting back to the point, I highly recomment this book to any adolescent/pre-adolescent girl.
This book is perfect for those conversations difficult to initiate with your young daughter. My mother purchased this for me when I was about 9 or 10, and it really helped explain some things that I don't think she was ready to discuss. I would recommend every mother read it, prior to giving it to their child, or read it together

Having 2 daughters, I knew this book was a MUST It helped ME when i was pre-teen. It answered alot of questions I had, but was to shy or embarrassed to ask! It is an awesome book to give to ANY young girl...ages 9 and up! It is a good way to open the doors to a much needed and necessary discussion for young girls going thru the changes in their lives. Both physically and mentally. Let's them know that everyone experiences these changes, but at all different times in their lives and in different ways.......
