The Core Duo iMac series is an excellent intro Mac desktop for the non-power user. I originally purchased this for my wife to replace her aging linux desktop. She has recently purchased an iPhone, and will receive an iPad for mothers day, and this will serve as the registration and sync point between them. The core duo series is not capable of running lion or mountain lion, but runs snow leopard at very capable speeds. The hard drive easily accommodates several days worth of music, high definition pictures, and various videos she has recorded. iLife, iWork, and Microsoft office all run on this machine with ease. The built in bluetooth, wifi and iSight camera make working with this unit a breeze. Moreover, facetime (version 1 not 1.0.2) runs smoothly and the app store present with a variety of options for other mac software. While it is at the end of its OS X compatibility life-cycle (i.e. it will not run new or future versions of the OS) it is still a viable product. It should remain usable for the next five to ten years and longer if your needs do not require the latest Mac hardware/software.Read full review
Bought this used as a backup, and have to say it is now my primary next to my macbook which I purchased to replace my Toshiba. Say bye to the blue screen, and constant maintenance. I can finally get some work done.
Bought this for my daughter's 10 birthday. Couldn't believe how zippy it still feels, and the form factor is still appealing. The price of these at auction makes them a bargain - they cost less than the equivalent mac mini but come with a very nice screen. Only downside is Apple for some reason decided not to support Mountain Lion running on them.
Never really liked mac's until I tried this one. It's old but still works better than I would have thought.
