This is a good little computer that was ahead of it's time. Very few laptops made six years ago still hold up. This one does. The processor is fast, ram upgradable and a decent sized hard drive allows multi-tasking; jumping from photoshop, word programs, the internet, imovie all the while playing music and burning a dvd is effortless. Because of it's age the price is right. Used units go from $175-$325. Again, because of it's age, do not expect much battery life if the battery is original. The unit is also a bit heavier than other macs and the design isn't the most durable laptop Apple has made. As long as you don't expect to be unplugged for long periods of time and don't drop the laptop, this is a great machine. Pros: Fast, plenty of memory, plenty of ram space, beautiful aesthetically, screen is a great size, crisp and clear with anti glare finish, speakers sound surprisingly good for a laptop, wireless ready, plenty of software, superdrive is awesome with dvd and cd burning capabilities. Overall a well made and easy to use computer. Cons: Again because of age, battery life (if original), keyboard is not lit, no cam, slightly fragile. Apple's word program 'pages' sucks. Bad. Considering how often a word program is used, this is a big deal to me. Appleworks (6) was a much better program. 12/31/10Read full review
This is a great little computer. It has a great form factor, and the keyboard is one of the nicest I've ever used on a laptop. However, because it is several years old, it's not a great performer. Also, the original battery very likely needs to be replaced at this point. This particular model has a DVD burner, but it's not a dual layer burner, so you are limited to 4.7GB DVD's. Usually that isn't a problem. This model also has the two fingers scrolling trackpad, which is a great feature to have and is a staple on all new Macs. If you're going to get a Powerbook G4, this is the one to get, especially with the fastest 1.5Ghz and upgraded memory. However, if you think you need a Powerbook G4, you should really think over that decision.
This is the best way to find out if you really want to invest wayyyy over a thousand dollars in an apple product- play with this powerbook g4 for a while and you will probably find that not only do you love apple, you love this little laptop! It's better than a netbook in its build quality- they are built to last. Get the largest processor and hard drive you can afford; you can always add RAM yourself. Other than not being able to run intel programs, it can do anything you ask of it. Runs Office, basic games, Internet wireless surfing, itunes, etc. with absolutely no problems. The screen quality is excellent, and the keyboard is comfortable and springy. I love this laptop.
this model came out in 2005, its 2012 now, i remeber how fast this was back in the day, i recently let go of my netbook which has high specs then this. this has a full keyboard, not like the netbook. bluetooth unlike netbook, and is built with the same metals found in the newer macbook pros i ran linux and windows on that machiane but its not as fast and relibale as mac os x. trust me, i use my custom built nettop for windows gaming this powerbook for ebay amazon skype facebook downloads uploads editing and runs amazingly better. my only grib is the weight but its build to last. take it from a geek i own alot of tec, tablets handles anything from ios driod os to osx windows linux. if you ae a person who doesnt want viruses and dosnt wanna games this is perfect for you, just max it out then BAM itll last you a few more yearsRead full review
Plenty of speed for basic photoshopping, excellent rendering time. Like it for quick enough youtube watching too. What I really love about this laptop is how comfortable it is to use ergonomically, just the right feel on the keyboard, light weight, perfect for travelling. Apple made a big mistake discontinuing this 12" laptop, hope they come back with a similar model with the intel chip. Until then this machine will do, runs every basic user program I throw at it. Sweet.
