I was looking for a laptop with an excellent screen brightness and contrast, so Apple MacBook qualified over any other brand. Apple puts best screens in its products, but be aware that the MacBook still comes with a TN panel type of screen (not PVA or IPS, which are better and more expensive), which has substantial polarization if looked at from a wide angle. I still decided to buy it because the brightness and contrast are superb, and there is no laptop brand on the market that has an IPS screen. Another pro is the aluminum unibody - it's sturdy and durable, and will serve you long. I'm also impressed with the sound quality - laptop speakers are a notoriously bad, but MacBook's is crisp and clear even when at max volume. Cons - this basic late 2008 model has no backlight in the keyboard, something I'd rather have, and which I had thought all unibody MacBooks had. If you want backlit keyboard, you'll have to buy either a more recent model or one with 2.4 GHz processor speed or higher, and those are more expensive. The other con is what I described above - colors on the screen look too white if looked at from the top, and black from the bottom. But since laptops are normally used by looking straight at, and left-right extreme angle polarization is not that dramatic at all, you probably won't even know it's there. I would rate it as "Excellent" if this model had a backlit keyboard and an IPS-type of screen, but again, it's something I can totally live with. Overall, I'm very happy with the product and would highly recommend it.Read full review
I have owned the MacBook aluminum unibody for over a year, and I love it. My computer fits in with all of the MacBook Pro's in both appearance and functionality. As a 3rd year college student, I have used this machine to write papers, social network, watch movies, play games, and much more. This computer was my first Mac, and it is a great transition from Windows! The only downer is that the machine is a little heavy and the battery lasts only about 3 hours if I'm lucky. But DEFINITELY worth the money! I honestly can see no difference between my computer and my friends' MacBook Pro's!!
Great Laptop , 2008 Model came with El Capitan preinstalled , comes like new condition , still upgradable such a steal! cant beat it ! Only problem is the battery that comes with is bad so you would have to replace it , besides that everything else was great

My actual rating would probably be closer to 4.5 heres why.... Size/Weight: This 13.3 Macbook is made out of all aluminum making it much lighter than all models previous to this. However it is still a bit heavier than the new macbook pro's. Its probably right on par with the 15 inch weight. Very easy to take to school or use on the metro/bus. Battery Life: It's really tough to rate the battery because I bought this computer used on Ebay so I am sure it was not been replaced in the 3-4 years old it is. All in all it's really not bad at all. I have classes for 4.5 hours strait without getting a chance to recharge. It holds up fine for what I am using it for (taking notes in pages, small amounts of internet useage, no videos or music being used). Performance: I upgraded the RAM in this to 4GB however it can hold up to 8 (although apple only verifies it can hold 6 GB). I somewhat wish I would have done 6 GB but it still does a great job handling the overall usage. I don't download any videos on this computer. Sometimes I do put songs on here. Right now I have about 475 songs. Get an external hard drive for that other stuff you'll thank yourself. Processor handles all of my applications just fine. Value for the Money: GREAT! I would much rather have this macbook over the newer ones. I found this for $525 of EBay. Compared to at least $1000 for a newer model. You can find a lot of speed comparisons between this model and the new MacBook Pros. It's not that huge and while using the computer you would never notice as compared to a brand new windows PC.Read full review
Considering that it is pretty old it worked great- better than my newer laptops. I've had this for a while and works nicely but it does tend to get hot even when on my desk. But I would definitely recommend.
