Even though this router is double the size of the new Airport Express, it's got a big antenna in it and works great. I got it to use as a wireless extender and it works as good or better than it's next-generation cousins (Airport Express) on my wireless network. Apple still supports this router with firmware updates. It's a great value if you can find a unit for $25 or so!

i am super stoked about my Apple Airport Extreme. This product is really easy to set up, while allowing you the options to have dual channels - one for you and one for guests (or however you'd like to use them). You can lock or unlock either channel. This is great because i can use the closed network for an attached Western Digital External HD that i have attached and all my personal activity; while i can allow guests to use their iphones and androids and the like. The device will give me full bars in the far corners of my basement, as well as around my entire house. At this price, it's a no brainer.
This is a GREAT Router! I love Mac so I am a little biased but I can attest at my old netgear router could not handle someone watching netflix instant streaming on the computer in the office and someone else watching netflix on the TV in the living room without totally freezing up on one or both and becoming unwatchable as it continues to buffer endlessly. But this little beauty can happily handle watching netflix on computer and tv, surfing the internet on wireless devices, and playing bandwidth hogging games on facebook all at the same time without a burp. As most things Mac you do pay more than other products but the products are easy to use, very dependable and in the unusual event you need assistance Apple's service is always awesome. Definitely worth the extra money!
I replaced my T60 Thinkpad with a new MacBookPro and because of all the problems I have had with the Linksys in the past I opted for a used AirPort Extreme from eBay. I wish I had done this sooner. Set up was easy to say the least. There was no filling in popup text boxes with secret computer lingo that I could never understand. Just plugged the cords in, answered a couple yes/no questions and done! It's got just ONE light on it that will change colors should a problem arise. I never could figure out why Linksys needed to have so many lights flashing all the time. Plus with its additional usb ports I got rid of my desktop usb hub. Neat and tidy. Apple products cost more but as the old saying goes, 'you get what you pay for.'
I have been around wireless routers and networking for awhile now and can tell you this is by far one of the best looking routers I have seen. I got one and it said new, I get it and the top is scratched up. First I can’t even figure how a wireless router with antenna built in the top can get scratched. I know that’s just cosmetic, GRIN. The flaws: 1) Price compared to comparable units is way out of hand, especially for a used one. 2) You need software installed and running to configure it. 3) You need software to use the shared printer in a mixed PC environment. 4) Only one USB port for sharing, even though its built in configuration is ready for shared drive and shared printer. “I have not tried the USB hub yet” 5) The shared printer only prints, so if you have a multi printer the rest is not used. The good: 1) The gigabit ports are really good either with gaming or multi – computers sharing the internet. “Don’t see the slow down as much”. 2) So far everything I have tried, has connected and went right online.{DSi , PSP , Windows PCs, Mac PCs, ect.} 3) A USB port for sharing a printing or hard drive. “able to add USB hub for more items” 4) Looks. It just looks real clean. 5) It’s compact. “a little larger then a stack of 6 CD cases” 6) No antennas sticking out of it. With all said I will keep it for now or at least until I get bored with it. GRIN Lastly Why I buy it, I just wanted to try it. I hope this helps someone out there. Thank you.Read full review
