This is quite an interesting book and a little slow in the beginning untill all the ground work was laid for the story to progress after that is was very fast paced and interesting. I usually figure out the ending and I had this one figured out and then all of a sudden I was wrong and was totally blown away by the ending. For that reason I consider this an excellent writer because he had me going one way and then all of a sudden reveled all of the cards to show mw another. The problem I have with this book is that I am a Christian woman and had to continually tell myself that this is a work of fiction and not necessarily a hit to the Christian community. I think the writer Dan Brown is a great conspiracy writer with lots of action and suspense and twists.
I really enjoyed the story of Angels and Demons. I like the audiobook edition as I can listen while I drive to work. The story had me riveted to the seat and was almost late for work because I wanted to listen "just a little longer". Dan Brown is an excellent author who makes everything sound plausible, even some of the most outrageous ideas. After listening to this audiobook, I am purchasing other Dan Brown works on audio and look forward to "reading" all of his works.
A fanatical religious group, the Illuminati, has stolen the worlds first man made sample of anti-matter. The anti-matter could cause the destruction of the entire world if its enclosure is not properly controlled. The Illuminati hold the Vatican, and the world, hostage while watching the countdown to the end. This fast paced adventure introduces readers to Robert Langdon, a religious symbologist. He's the protagonist in that other little Dan Brown novel, The DaVinci Code. But this is the first book in which Mr. Langdon makes his appearance. In this book Langdon must untangle a web of religious symbols pertaining to the Illuminati to find the anti-matter and ultimately save the world. As with the Da Vinci code, there are numerous plot twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. Untangling the historical information and religious dogma Langdon must sort out the clues to find the anti-matter. Without revealing anything earth shattering, Langdon successfully saves the world from destruction. If you enjoyed the Da Vinci code, then you'll also enjoy this book. It's a page turner from start to finish. Again, it could be interpreted as religiously volatile, but since it doesn't put into question the entire Christian religion, it hasn't gotten nearly the publicity. I heartily recommend getting this book.Read full review
I read The Da Vinci Code because of all of the attention it was getting. I truly enjoyed that book and went on to read Dan Brown's other books. Angels & Demons was the 2nd book by Dan Brown that I read and I found the book to be far more interesting, with better character development, more descriptive text and more suspense. The story is wildly creative and the use of ambigrams (words that appear the same whether read right-side-up or up-side-down), the Illuminati (an ancient secret society), the conclave (the Catholic process of selecting a new Pope), humanity (including members of clergy) at it's best and worst, all added something that can only be described as superbly imaginative. Say what you will about the "clatter" surrounding The Da Vinci Code, but this book was captivating to the point that even that which would seem almost impossible was easily accepted as possible. The characters in this novel, including Langdon from The Da Vinci Code, were deep and complex with inner-demons that they faced whilst facing the true demons of the real world. The Da Vinci Code was good, but this novel was phenomenal; absolutely perfect. I would give it a 6/5 (6 out of 5) if it made sense to do so.Read full review
After reading The Da Vinci Code, I was pretty floored. Amazing story, well written, every page leaves you wanting more. Once I finished TDC and was yearning for more of the same type of "educated adventure", I turned to A&D hoping Dan Brown would keep me satisfied (I followed Stephen King for years and purchased every one of his books based solely on his name). Like most great books you finish, your mindset is, "oh, nothing could be better than the last book I read". At least I do that. Turning to A&D and knowing it could not live up to TDC was my mistake. A mistake as in, holy crap (no pun intended), it was JUST AS GOOD, and some may consider it better. I do. Actually when you listen or read the book, you can sense the template for which TDC was written. I was happy to re-enjoy that type of storyline again. All-in-all, the book is full of to the point storytelling and historical types of subjects like art, architecture, religion (disclaimer-historic references may or may not all be factual since this is a work of fiction). And the story is every bit as interesting as TDC, hands down. The only complaint I have heard is that the book's ending extends too far and gets watered down. That being said, it is still a very readable ending that gives you more when you want more. If you read TDC and want more, you MUST listen to this audio book or read Angels & Demons. I read the book first then purchased the audio book, which is very well done and enjoyable to listen to.Read full review
