This amp is really small for 400wrms at 2 ohms. Not a lot of extra features but the basics are all there to put some thunder in your car. Have not run it that long but seems to work nice so far. I don't care for the trim covers, I just don't like parts to get lost on an amp and they make it harder to adjust it in the car from the top. But that is just a detail issue. I wish they would have made it look finished if they were not on it. With some mountings you can get to the controls easily though; like from the end. Class D technology is nice as it takes less power for the watts it puts out, and makes less heat. I like the basic good looks of the unit, terminals work well and are sturdy, and have not found any negatives with the amp aside from my preference on trim panels. The way it is made it seems fairly resistant to cosmetic damage also, no shiny stuff to easily scratch. I think it has a built in subsonic as I recall, but you may want to be careful if you port a box to higher frequency with a low wattage sub as it will unload it. I would say its greatest strength is the small size and the fact that it seems to work pretty good with clean sound and strong output, plus the basic features to get the job done. IMO in this price range it is great offering with lots of mounting options. You might have to get another MRP for your high amp because this might look funny being smaller than many existing class AB amps, if you care. But that is the way of more efficient class D technology. It is a more difficult technology to use full range, but odds are they will become popular some day. I have no way to measure it other than comparing to many other amps I have used, but it seems to be up to its output ratings and the sound is great. If you want fancy lights and chrome, or lots of control options like a variable subsonic then it may not work out for you. This is a great set it and forget it amp that takes up little room.Read full review
I bought this amp in early 2008 from probably the most reputable on-line, catalog electronics retailer in the country. At the time it was being phased out for the newer model, so I paid $150 for it new. I have it in a reg. cab S-10 running a Kicker 12" CVT sub. It's small size allows it to fit under the seat, it never gets hot and it POUNDS the sub with precision. The size is the best part; I'm sure many bigger amps can't keep up with this one. I beat it daily, going on over 3 years now and it just keeps going, very reliable. Easy to adjust the gain, the bass boost; simply put it's Alpine quality. I would definitely buy another one, but I think mine will be working for a long time. Since the 4 channel model was also on sale, I bought 2 OF THEM BASED ON THE QUALITY OF THIS ONE! Still have an extra amp! The small 40X4 has never had a problem either. I've had many amps; this one is head and shoulders above any low grade brand and I have put it up against a well known American brand on the same sub and there was no difference. Small, powerful, lasts; what else do you need? If you can get one of these and are comparing it to another, there's no decision to be made, it's this Alpine!Read full review
This is the go to Amplifier if you`re just going to run 1 12in High Powered Subwoofer that runs at 150 to 600 RMS.. I have a 2001 Tahoe and was going to get a bigger amplifier and run dual 12in Alpine Type Rs but decided to run just one with the Labyrinth ported box sold here on ebay and all I can say is wow this amplifier puts down some serious power, good clean powerful base from my setup, shakes my whole truck and those cars around me too. You can never go wrong with Alpine. Make sure you get OFC COPPER for your entire system don`t buy CCA wire, (Copper Clad Aluminum.) You want (OXYGEN FREE COPPER) for your whole audio system setup. Buy it you won`t be sorry.

I sold these amps when they were brand new on the shelves. I got myself an M500 and and F450 to pair with my Type R 6.5s & Type R 10" sub. Absolutely phenomenal hardware, even this many years later. I still have another complete audio system in all the boxes, both amps & the sub, sadly not the door speakers so I'd probably need to grab a set of new Type R speakers for my other system. When people where hemming & hawing about what sub amp to get around the 200ish price point (new) I'd always point them to these Alpines over the comparable Rockford, Kicker, Kenwood, Sony, etc. amps. They just sounded better, had better build quality, better options. You get the point. These amps are killer for the price. Never had any returns aside from the rare defect here & there. It's inevitable.

I gave it a good rating, as it is used and I have not installed this amplifier yet due to bad weather, I do not have a garage. The appearance looks great, not too big for an amp of its power. Even being a used amp it looks great hardly shows signs of use. All wire covers are present, all fuses are present and test out good. Adjustment nobs are in good shape they aren't rung off from trying to use pliers to turn them like other used amps in the past I have looked at. Can't wait to get this installed.
