This head unit offers excellent control over all if not most music parameters. You'll have to get used to the functions and getting to them, its not as easy as lets say a Pioneer head unit. The faceplate is a tad more difficult to put back on when compared to other brand head units, just something that takes some time getting used to. Signal, and sound processing is much better then that of my previous Pioneer DEh-2000MP head unit, thanks to Alpines better materials and higher voltage pre-outs in the back (2V compared to 4V). As a result mids and highs come out much cleaner, sharper and with less echo. Being able to correct each speaker for time delays allow for any position in the car to be tailored to feel like its in the center of the music. An excellent feature that can be done manually by inputing distances from ones ears to each speaker or by using Alpines Imprint microphone and software to calibrate based on its position in the vehicle accounting for surface materials, echos, reflection and any other phenomenom that one can conceave to alter sound reproduction and delivery. Overall a great head unit, for a great price if around $200 or less.Read full review
Since 1997, I have been using brands like Kenwood, Clarion and Eclipse for stereos and just a week ago, I installed this stereo along with the kce-400BT, iPod Cable, 2 pairs of Alpine sps-406, Alpine mrp-f200, Alpine mrp-m350, and custom box made loaded with a 12 inch Kicker C12 sub. The CDA-9887 sounds great stock but to really make it sound amazing, Pick up the KTX-100EQ *Imprint* and really see how awesome Alpine is. I have an old Clarion system in my 1968 Chevrolet C10 Pickup, and when I finish the restore, I am going to change out the system with an Alpine because the Imprint has really sold me on how a stereo should sound. Luckily when I bought my alpine cda-9887, I got a package deal of the head unit, 2x iPod cables *kce-422i and kce-433iv*, kce-400BT, ktx-100eq *imprint kit* and it is well worth it. I did have to purchase the bt microphone and a remote *especially for 94 chev silverado*. I am seriously thinking of purchasing another one of these decks for my 68 just because of how impressed I am with it. HTH, CharlieRead full review
I sold car and home audio for years. I now drive 50k miles a year doing service work and spend hours on the road every week. Poor sounding, stock stereo systems are not tolerable. Over the years, I have owned five or six Alpine head units, never had a service issue and always had good experiences. Before the CDA-9887, I had never fallen in love with a head unit. I saw the Imprint advertised a few years ago and thought "that looks cool, gotta have it, neat toy". The local Alpine dealer had not sold too many and had not yet installed and tuned an Imprint system. I shelled out the bucks and bought the CDA-9887 and KTX-100EQ tuning kit at the local Alpine dealer. When I installed it, it sounded good and the features, Ipod interface and Sirius satellite radio, worked better than the previous generation Alpine head units. I played with the time correction and cross-over and tweaked the settings for an hour or two. The sound was great and I was happy. A week later, I hooked up my laptop to the tuning kit, ran the software, moved the mic to six different testing positions thinking "what a waste of time...." I downloaded the program to the headunit and listened to my favorite song four or five times. Everything sounded better than I had ever heard in any of my car systems. Imaging sounded like I had added a center channel. Crossover points smoothed out and blended the subwoofer better than anything I could ever tweak myself. Mid-bass clarity and punch had never sounded so good. Highs became bright and smooth without burning my ears like most car audio systems do. I like more bass than the Imprint set, so I just boosted the subwoofer amp gain. I bought a second CDA-9887 for my second vehicle. I just can't live without one now.Read full review
I like this unit, first because if gives me full control over the ipod... second, the sound quality is awesome. facts important to me are, remote control, faceplate, dual illumination, to matches my dashboard, reputation of the brand, ipod ready, sprint feature, time correction feature, also controls a cd changer if available. Once its installed the sound quality to me is the most pleasent feature. Thank you.
I upgraded the Bose OEM stereo on my 2008 Nissan Rogue to the CDA-9887 and it was like switching from AM to CD quality of sound. Don't get me wrong, the bose stereo was pretty sweet, but this is ridiculous, it takes great sound to a whole new level. Doing all the adjustments is quite the hassle, and I feel like I need to be some kind of engineer to tune the damn thing, but once it's done... it's magic. The iPod interface is quite nice too. You can not go wrong with Alpine.
