After watching 10 minutes of this animated movie, I was about to call it one of the worst movies ever and just give up on it. However, I always stay with a film to the bitter end, thankfully my perseverance paid off, it was just bad not downright horrible. There are so many things wrong with this film I really don't know where to begin. Lets start with the animation, you can't say that it is "bad" as such, that would be unfair, but it does not stand up next to other animated movies like "Rio" "Ice Age" and anything by Pixar. "Substandard" is the best way to described the animation here. The plot is awful too. A female "Alpha" wolf called Kate and a male "Omega" wolf called Humphrey get taken and placed in a new wilderness together, however they are needed back home to save their packs and thus must make the long trek together back home. Kate needs to get back to marry her new "Alpha" mate Garth, Humphrey wants to get home because he (not so) secretly loves Kate and wants to be with her, but Alpha's and Omega's just can't be together (not sure why, they just can't) The plot is boring and predictable, but it's a kids film, so that is completely forgivable. What is a little disturbing to me is the mother wolf. She is a cute, typical "homey" mom, who looks after her family, doting on them... unless you make threats, then she gets mean. It's a funny idea (kinda) but I am not sure that dialogue like "I will rip out your eyeballs and stuff them down your throat" should be in the movie, would you want your five year old running around saying that to other people? but hey, maybe that's just me. The voice acting is fine, which is a plus, although how Dennis Hopper got involved in this drek is beyond me. There is also some decent action here and there to keep the kiddies happy, but for the rest of us, when the wolves start to howl in song, you will be wanting to reach for the sick-bag.Read full review
My wife and I took our kids and our nieces to see this movie. My wife and I thought it was easily one of the worst movies we have seen. Trust me, my wife has picked some awful movies in her day, but this one took the cake. The story was boring, the plot dragged on with little to nothing happening for long stretches, and the predictability of the movie to my 8 year old and 7 year old niece was painful. BUT...my 4 year old loves this movie. Seeing her walking around like a wolf, singing in the howling style, is well worth owning such an awful movie. Don't expect it to be easy on the adult viewer, like Wall E or Princess and the Frog, but throw it on and leave the room. Then just wait to see your little wolf come out howling. haha
