This version of The All New GoodHousekeeping Cookbook (2001)is a very good cookbook. I bought it because we have an older version that we bought over 30 years ago and is literally falling apart from so much use. I like this newer one because with each recipe, it lists the calories, carbohydrates, etc. per serving, and other nutritional facts. At the beginning of each recipe all of the ingredidients are listed and easy to read. Pictures are worth 1,000 words and this book is full of them. You'll find your different food categories easy to find, i.e., different meats, chicken, fish, salaads, desserts,, etc. It shows the different cuts and explains how to use them by size, temperature and time. We have many cookbooks; Cooking Light (annual & other editions), Southern Living (a variety) Joy of Cooking, Martha Stewart, Betty Crocker and so many more but find Good HouseKeeeping to be our most used book.Read full review
I already own this cookbook and I love it. With it's easy to read recipes and many photos to show the end result is just perfect for my father, so I purchased it for him. He loves cooking but doesn't like when he gets these so called simple recipe cookbooks and they end up to be so technical. This cookbook is for those who love to cook basic recipes, recipes that you always wanted to know, even recipes with a twist. There are many different catagories to look through. There are meats, poultry, veggies, fruits, desserts, and many other sections. The All New Housekeeping Cookbook(2001) gives great details and explanations. As well as measurements and substitutions for some ingredients. Take my word for it this cookbook is a must own for all families with cooks.
Excellent recipes in it. Ingredients can be found locally and not have to order and have shipped at $17.50 per box. I love organic food - but really. I throw seeds in the ground, keep weeds from growing, and walla. Organic vegetables. You can even grow vegetables inside, which i grew cherry tomatoes, and yep the vine did not grow from the bathroom to the kitchen. I think we are so willing to pay such exorbitant prices for veggies, that quite frankly some organic farms are known to use fertilizer (hydroponic) so, they avoid telling you this. If the farm won't let you 'see' what they are growing....I saw 25 poison (skulls) looking at me - and that was just one too many. They say that the fertilizer does not get into the food, but hello. If it is going through the veins of the plant - I am no scientist, but going from what I saw when I was invited into a family friends hydroponic greenhouse, never again would I eat them. Germans say to stay away from the chemicals. I'm trying the best I can.Read full review
This is a great reference for skilled cooks, with reliable recipes for almost everything you're likely to make. Go ahead and toss out your old Fanny Farmer--this one is more modern, and every bit as comprehensive--with an abundance of pictures illustrating what to expect. The recipe for mushroom risotto is one of my favorites--resulting in restaurant quality risotto every time. Another winner is the recipe for braised lamb shanks with white beans. There are detailed instructions on how to truss fowl--not as elaborately as Jamie Oliver, but quite adequate. And the Pad Thai recipe is quite good, too. I found the entry for paella serviceable, but chose to omit the green beans in favor of green peas. Want different approaches to preparing napa cabbage? This book provides them. If you've ever been inclined to make pie crust, this book shows you how. And speaking of pies, the Tarte Tatin recipe is so good, even my mother-in-law was raving when I prepared it, and her raving over anything I make is about as common as an honest politician.Read full review
Excellent recipes. The one for butterscotch sauce is worth buying the whole book for—but there are also scores of other great recipes....a keeper!
