I frequently exploit the connections between art and math, this time in a workshop for middle school teachers. I used this book along with a book called "In The Balance," which depicts algebra puzzles as mobiles. Many young teachers did not know who Calder was, or that the term mobile was coined to describe his work that moves by Dadaist Marcel Duchamp. There is a also a "flip book" in this book--the top corners of the pages illustrate a construction, and when the pages of the book are "flipped," the construction becomes a mobile and moves. I was very happy to get a copy of this book which is now out of print.
An excellent overview of the work of Calder, with lots of photographs, many of which are in color. Written in an interesting, informative, and easy-to read manner.
Like Calder. Fun book to read. Lots of photos and descriptions in back of book.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
