I absolutely love this book just as much as any book by Natalie Chanin and her amazing associates. Since finding her company on the internet some years ago; with each visit-- I find bright, fresh, and new ideas everytime, whether through the pages of her books, her company website, or her onine classes, or her Chef friends. Do yourself a favor-- if you see her books here at Ebay... Just Buy It!

Natalie Chanin's Alabama Studio group is one to watch. While her custom designs are plain by current trend, their style is timeless. The cover photo of two young women in grey hats? The style is basic; the embellishment is what makes Chanin's bucket hat unique. Volume, which looks like a scaled-down coffee table book, contains valuable instruction in garment construction (Chanin's designs are hand-sewn), embellishment, embroidery-applique designs, garment patterns (be sure not to miss her corset t-shirt design, the concept that broke out of the basic t-shirt rectangle w/2 sleeves or the standard for decades). Hand-painting, airbrush painting, embroidery stitches as both embellishment as well as to flatfell seams--So Much Incitement To Drop Everything, Take a Break and Create! Miz Chanin's two previous books in this series are a must to add to your collection if you find Alabama Studio Sewing + Design exciting. Between the 3, they cover a wealth of information regarding creating unique, one-of-a-kind wardrobe items. Not to mention that handsewn garments provide an ample canvass for the creative expression of the sewist as opposed to the tired whim of either NY and/or Europe. Why did I buy this product? Saw a review, did a search and liked what I read. How does it compare to others? Chanin's artistic view is radically different from current garment trend, hence her simplistic designs provide a bit more challenge to replicate than the usual mainstream pattern. What do I dislike? That I didn't discover her genius earlier. Would I give this book for a gift? Yup. Would I buy another book if my copy went walkabout? Yup? And will I continue to rave about Alabama Studio? Yup, yup and yup. When it comes to Alabama Studio, I'm a believer!Read full review
